Good luck mate.

Where is the car now..... what is your next step as far as it being looked at properly.
Obviously you need a proper diagnosis.
I hope it is something like the turbo and not something much worse.

Any excess blow by from the breather in the rocker cover? It doesn't sound good, at all.
The only way really to see what it is, is to do a compression test or remove the head.

Ok question? if 3 cylinders are 400psi why couldn't you put in one piston would it matter if the reading was a bit higher or lower

Not ideal, but could be done,

Bugger of a thing to happen, roofy. It all depends on the condition of the bore, I suppose. But since you would have the motor apart, anyway, you would freshen up as much of the engine as you could.

Yeah understandable, if the bore can get away with a hone, that'll be about as cheap as you can get.
I remember seeing something on engine conversions on 4wdtv, they had a mountain (literally)of zd30s on their property, I think it was biders 4x4 or something in Vic. They mite have a complete short block to sell

That would be Readies in Bendigo. He does heaps of conversions so mightt have a few around. You should be giving some serious thought to your options though Roofy, dropping in a TD42 or LS1 should be something you at least cost out bud. Talk with Clint Read about what he can do for you mate.
Alternatively give John Biders a call for a price on a rebuild versus conversion.

That's right in the grenade year range unfortunately.
It's sad to hear of them still blowing and Nissan still denying that anything is wrong with the motor. Profits before people I guess.

This is the only reason way I didn't buy a diesel, and the fact that I couldn't afford a TD4.2.
I threw to much $$$ at my last 4x4 after everyone told me to stay away from them as they are proven to have issues. Just like these engines they are proven to have issues.
Roofy, if you're going to keep it do it properly. Go price the conversions, whichever one suits you, park it up if that's an option.
Shame that it has happen, but it is what it is.
Hope it works out mate.

Sorry to hear this Roofy, although we haven't met personally I am overwhelmed by other members' support for you ( I wish I could help you more, but funds are a bit tight atm, so my apologies). You must be a good person.
If I may ask you a quick one though, you mentioned that the EGT was on mark, where was your EGT installed, before or after the turbo, if you have one.
Thanks mate, and wish all the very best to find a new motor and get back you on the track soon.
Cheers,
Sir Roofy
