Silicone hoses

Just wondering if silicon hoses are OK to use for water.
I know they are iffy with oil on them,
cause I want to cut my top hose to fit a water temp sender.

The cheap chit sold on ebay wont be any better than quality rubber. Decent silicone is expensive.
