G'day Timbo,
sorry I can't help.
Coupla thorts though,
1) being a fully paid up manual man I don't even know what a auto filter is and don't even want to.
2) a sump 'gadget' is a bit of a tester. Are you looking for a 1/2 inch socket driver to undo the sump or something else? Every sump plug I've ever removed only needed a 1/2" driver.
3) if you're looking for oil filters, either go to a Nissan dealer ( and their prices in Adelaide Oz. are good) or go to a motor parts supplier and look at their list of makes and model options
4) same for fuel filters.

Finally, be a bit careful of filters which are too cheap to be true. I fitted one in Darwin about 30 years ago and it was total crap, crap, CRAP. Diesels depend TOTALLY on ALL filters.
Dunno if this helps but good maintenance is critical for diesels.
Regards,
Col

Lord Tim........

have a look at your oil filters
are they 2 the same, or 2 different

the Ryco book says - http://www.rycofilters.com.au/catalogue/application/index/make/nissan/model/PATROL

your best bet would be to take them off, see what the numbers are
then go searching for equivalent

DO NOT buy cheap and nasty like Sakura filters
always get good quallity

Thanks chaps
hmm sump gasket (don't you just love the Mac change the spelling regardless feature - no i don't)
the issue i have is that the 4.2td was never sold in the UK so this model does not even feature in a UK Nissan part catalogue
so was thinking of trying to see if the 2.8td or the 3.0td (which were available in the UK) had the same filters etc
you guys have both

Tim,

The filters can be different for the different Nissan Diesels - especially the 3 Litre Di, which makes it a little harder for you, but the 2.8 Td might be the same as the 4.2D. I would check with a Nissan Dealer over your way.

You can have a look at Patrolapart, who are a site sponsor here, and they have different OEM filters for all the models. They would post filters across for you, if you cant get anything nearer.

Things to be wary of with the 4.2, are that there are 2 oil filters, and on certain year models, they are identical filters, and on some years (i know that it is at least around 2000-2001 here in Aust ), they are 2 different ones, with one being full flow and the second filter being a bypass type filter. You should be able to verify this by the thread size on the filters, if you can't read the part numbers.

Some aftermarket sites will advertise the same filter for the 2.8 and 4.2, so I am sure they aren't that much different. Over here, guys use a variety of different filters, as there are a lot that are fairly similar in filtration ( but differ in price as to how commonly used they are $7 - $22 ). You just want to make sure that whatever you use, they have an anti-drain back valve in them, so it doesn't have to keep re-filling the filters each time you start up and can push oil around the motor more quickly and get it all up to pressure.

they sold the Y60 (we call them GQ) with the 4.2 in the UK
some were imported from Spain & Poland
so a decent auto accessory shop should have a listing for you

I remember in 2005 when I was over there, I found a great spare parts shop in Stirling (a wee bit out of your way), and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it, or where it was.........

Tim, the filter for the auto is a metal gauze unit which can be washed and reused.
For the pan gasket, the auto is a Jatco RE4R03A. If a good gasket was used last time, it will probably be reusable.

thanks again chaps
all points noted and will crack on and see what i can sort in the UK
will use Aus contacts if no luck here
the killer when importing is the VAT (sales Tax) and the duty - which will double the price
