Any tricks to removing the centre console, I need to remove
that switch panel and also fit my extension lead for my UHF mike.
Had a search and there's nothing on it.

Easy mate. Undo screws in bottom circles, and slowly pull it away by grabbing from top orange circle.

Two screws in the front sides and one under the ash tray. You will need to remove the lever knobs too.

Yaeh, you can just see one of the screws in the pic from Hodge... very bottom of frame just in from RHS

Once the console is out you can access the two screws for the switch panel. Unless your talking about the panel opposite the hand brake. Then there is two screws at the front of the console box ( can be seen when the centre console is out) and the is two at the lower rear sides on the box. Near the front seat runners (rear section) Thats to remove the entire console box to access the said panel.

Getting closer all I want to remove is the armrest console The shifter can stay where it is , I dont want to remove that.
just the arm rest part if thats clearer, unless the lot needs to be removed which doesnt make much sense atm

It is... but... it takes like 30 seconds to get the shifter bit out of the way... it is only 3 screws
Give me a sec to check the manual

You should need to remove these. IIRC. Only the two rear side ones near the seat rails.

I just used an RJ45 wall socket one from Middy's and adapted it to the panel below the dash and glued the front bit on, so its flush.

Yeah But that area is full on my Patrol, but yes its a RJ45 panel mount with two screws.
I have a remote head UHF so everything is hidden,
I'll be leaving the Mike in the glovebox until needed.
I do have that Baintech USB outlet in the same position, but not sure Ill be leaving it there.
Going to re think how it all goes, have most of the bits and bobs to do it,
but dont want leads or wires getting crossed over, going to put another USB outlet on the back of the console
as well

Yeah that Baintech USB socket is crap. Useless for charging as its only 1amp. My tablet and phone will still go flat when plugged into it. Need a minimum of 2amp these days. Something else to change....

Yep... only need to do that one if you want to remove trim (orig post edited)

I'm trying to do this to get to the back of the centre console so I can mount my new UHF there. I've removed the first bit undid the screws mentioned but it still seems to be held in by something. Any ideas? Looks like someones tried to staple the base I can see two divets with what looks like staples in them, its the only thing I can think off thats still holding the centre console in place.

Have you undone the 2 screw bolts in the bottom of the actual console? 2 in the bottom and 2 under the ashtray.

Yeah I found some extra ones under the lid at the back above where an ashtray could go and once I removed that the back of it was able to be removed and found the 2 at the back of the centre console.

Has anyone removed the panel in front of the centre console that has the sub tank switch and power outlet in it? I guess the centre console has to come out to do it?
cheers

If your talking in front of the gear stick leaver you need to take the shroud off, 4 screws 2 on each side and one in the ashtray. Should be pretty obvious after that.

and remember to unplug the ash tray light before removing the console out. Mine finally busted after forgetting on numerous occasions. :frown:

Same deal with this Narva USB socket I fitted into my second glovebox.

Can anyone recommend a dual USB socket to replace it which WILL charge a tablet being used (& preferably with a phone plugged in too)?

jaysee. He got a hold of a 3.5a one I believe. 3.5a would be perfect.

Cuppa check out jaycars website there is a few they stock now rated at 2.1 amp per output so a total of 4.2 amp. I put 2 lots in mine for the kids ipads (ipad 4 and ipad air) and they work well...... providing the kids havent stuffed the cables up they use 😩. Thats another drama

The slight issue with 2.1A socket is they work fine if your not using a power hungry app like mapping software. I have a 2A socket in the rear and it wont charge my tablet if Im using Memory map. If using my 3A ciggie socket to USB Adpator the tablet will charge.

Thanks Mark & Mike, have just ordered one from my local Jaycar outlet. New model (https://www.jaycar.com.au/panel-surface-mount-dual-usb-charging-ports-with-4-2a-output-12-24vdc/p/PS2030)- will take 3 days to get it in. Comes with panel & surface mount & looks like it should fit the same as the existing one.
Older model (https://www.jaycar.com.au/dual-usb-charging-ports-4-2a-output-12-24vdc/p/PS2028) with same 4.2a output is on special at the moment, but I wasn't sure if it had the same mount as my existing one - so paid a bit more for the new one which does. Probably a good buy for anyone who doesn't need the extra 'plastic surround' though.
Photo of my existing one, just 'cos I'm not sure which is the 'Panel' mount, & which is the 'Surface' mount, although I'm guessing mine is 'Panel'. :)

Not sure, it was either the Cuppski Corporation or the Mudpa Association. :)

Both "should" fit your existing panel by the looks of it. Same screw type mount on the back judging by the pics.
I had the older type which works well. Stuck it in the back for the 3rd row seat.
The other ones i have are the carling switch lookalike ones which are mounted where the rear ash tray used to be. Both types work well imo

Hi all,
I just rejoined your group.
My handbrake on my 2007 GU is faulty.
I have pulled out the centre consol and cleaned up the dirt.
This is what I have.
Handbrake just does nothing when applied so maybe broken cable.
Also, how do I post pucs please
My problem car is unregistered so I can't take it to a mechanic.
Anyone in Southern Adelaide what to assist ???
Regards

Welcome back to the forum. To post pics, use the GO Advanced button at the bottom right of the post window. Press the Paper Clip Icon at the top of the post window. Choose file. Find and select a file and then upload the file. Just remember to shrink your picture files . I usually resize them to around 1500 x1000. You can preview your post too. This is the resultant quality of a Jpeg file.
