VALE LANDROVER DEFENDER

Seems a shame they will no longer be making the Defender,
most little boys dreamed of once owning one for the adventure of a life time,
from watching shows like The Leyland Brothers. lol
Probable the best low 1st gear in the game, but Lucas electrical or Bosch
not quite sure Ill edit it later.
But,,,,, if you can put up with the off centre steering wheel,, the oil leaks oh the oil leaks
It was so versitile you could use the grill on some of the earlier ones for a BBQ plate,
and the hand brake gouging a hole in your thigh, then this is the 4x4 for you.
Land Rover to their credit did have a lot of firsts, even back in 1976 with the Range Rover
Price was $6800 I know that as my mates FIL ordered one and sold it 3months later for $10,000
cause the waiting list was that long.

R.I.P Land Rover Devender

Drove Land rovers in the Army and loved them. Go anywhere and nearly all issues were fixed with coat hanger wire and olive drab paint. Army has now replaced them with the Mercedes G wagon.

Yeah it's the end ... My neighbour has a 2013 model and will be buying one of the last special editions which will be released soon I believe ...
They ended them because to meet some new safety regs, they had to change the front end shape of it ... And because the defender has been the same since forever, Land rover wasn't going to buy it and in the end decided to end pull the pin... This is one amongst a few safety and emission reasons.

It's not the end for the Defender, it's being "upgraded".

So yes the Defender as we know it, will no longer exist but its making way for a new-generation model.

Hopefully what ever replaces it will be safer and more ergonomic but still orientated for off road straight off the show room floor. Who knows for how long Y61 will be built as its now only for the Australian market.
That leaves the 70 series and Wrangler as the only true off roaders (live axle front) and the Tojo is getting long in the tooth as well (1984?).

IFS anyone?

Won't be far off, a softroader and not a real 4x4 like the old defenders anyway

The 2 millionth Defender was sold at auction for 400,000 pounds. Some despereates around, lol.
And they tried to be the first to cross the simpson and failed, 3 times. Then the mighty Patrol came along and did it their first try. Hehe.
