Has anyone out there in patrol land moved the seats in a GQ back? When I have my seat back as far as it will go (a couple of extra inches would be better) the young bloke has no room in the back.
I want to move the back seats back a few inches.
Any ideas???

Sorry, Covo, I had the same problem and ended up leaving the third row seat in so at least the kids could stretch out side ways. Very interested to see if anyone has come up
with a solution too.

There was a thread recently of modded brackets to move the front seats back for you 6'2" plus guys
I really cant see why the same cant be done on the rear seats,
Make a frame that picks up all std mounting points and move the seat back on that.
Id have to have a look but Im sure its possible, you may need to remove the seats from the rails
to allow you to bolt to the new frame??

The floor goes up not far behind the bracket at the back of the seats.
I was thinking of just getting some 5mm steel and running it along the top of the existing bracket past the back about 100mm and bolting the seat further back on the steel. Both the kids are in car seat bolting in behind that so don't think there are any safety issues.

I dont have pictures, as I have sold the car, but
I did do this mod on my GQ

you need to take them out
basically, the front edge of the bracket that the seat base swings on, we cut the front off and moved it back 60mm into the middle of the bracket......... I hope this sort of explains it........ instead of the bracket that is bolted to the floor being an "L" shape, it is now a "T" shape - bolt holes on either side of the center section......... aaaahhhhhhhh how to explain.......?????????
you also need to remove the "bump stop" at the back of the seat, and turn the locking bracket for the seat base around for the seat to lock down properly

should also say, that if you have a cargo barrier, it will also need to be moved back and modified
I am thinking this is in English, so hopefully you will understand
but I think I am thinking in Gibberish.......................

be carefull when you take the seat out, you may need to weld up the cracks under there first

Hey Bigcol,
Was 60mm enough or can you go a bit further?

Hey Bigcol,
Was 60mm enough or can you go a bit further?

60mm is the max you can go, you need to remove the arm at the bottom that assists with folding the seat forward - you will see which one when you fold the seat forward
if you try to go further back several problems

1) rear bottom of the seat fouls the floor, and it wont sit down, will always "flop around"
2) you cannot move the rear bracket on the floor any further back, as you cannot get under there to tighten bolts
3) you will loose the rear bolt of the two at the front of the seat - IMHO very very bad juju
4) the side of the seat fouls the wheel arch

after lots and lots of R&D, we came up with a happy compromise of 60mm
enough for me to sit in the back, with the front seats ALL the way back, and still have room between front seat and my knee's

Who did the work for you Col, was it XLR8?

both Mike and I did it Clunky, but if you ask him nicely, he would do it

biggest problem we found was the cracking of the floor around where the bracket on the floor is bolted
if its cracked, get it welded up properly

under one side on mine was the Aux fuel tank - hence the "get it welded up properly"

we had a look at a few GQ's, and they were all the same

I will have to dig out my old Nokia phone, as I think there is picture of the brackets on there

I know I took some, but cannot find them

Thanks Bigcol,
I will get hold of another set of hands before I attempt this. Doesn't sound too complicated to do. Only a problem if I need to weld something.

Sold it and leased a bt50 through work. Had a big disagreement with my boss and was told he would find a way to finish me up. Coincidently we have a house in Coffs Harbour that the tenants said they wanted to move out so we moved from Bathurst back to Coffs. Sold the bt50 and picked up this Maverick this week. Just need to find a job now. Miss tHe GU though.
