I love two strokes. Always have, ever since doing unexpected wheelies on a YZ80 back in the 70s. My motorcycle is a Yamaha R1, so despite being a 4 stroke, it has a rush from 7000 to 11,000RPM that is not dissimilar to a 2 stroke power band.

Diesels leave me cold. I know that will put noses out of joint, since the more hard core people are, the more they seem to like the oilers. It's the lack of revability, the feel of the fuel on my hands, the idling for minutes after stopping, the brick wall you hit when trying to rev them, the glow plug contraption that almost got me sacked on my first day on the job 30 years ago that I didn't even know existed until I flattened the battery on the little truck on my way to buy morning tea for the team. But the main problem I have with them is just how fanatical the fans are. It's like talking to vegans or golf players, it is all they ever talk about!

OK, so for the few who haven't spat out their Weet-Bix in disgust and closed the thread, I'm actually a calm and nice guy. I have an HC license, so I can drive a rig although I never would, but why not up-skill every now and then? I used to drive tow trucks while at uni, then moved on to be a motorcycle courier until I graduated. Driving and riding is in my blood. Doing a mechanical engineering degree allowed me to take my passion and live in that world while being paid. Not auto so much, but the world of machinery and automation.

I have owned a '96 Range Rover HSE, and a 2009 Nissan Navara D40 ST-X. I've owned heaps of others, but not the sorts of cars that 4WD enthusiasts dream about. My daily drive is a current model V8 Commodore, and the GQ was purchased for a few thousand from a guy around the corner from me to make up for the jobs that the Navara used to do but the Commodore can't. My GQ has done 300,000 km. It's a manual RB30 with carby, 1992. It has rear disk brakes which have both just shat their seals, so I'm changing those this weekend.

I hope that gives you a feel for what I do, and maybe you can forgive my intolerance of diesels one day.

Cheers,

Simon

Welcome Simon. Good thing about Diesels is they don't have carbies to mess up. Plenty of peeps here with MCs and even Commodores so you will have some mates.

welcome to the forum Simon
lots to read and learn from these guys

nothing wrong with Petrol mate, yes has the revs, but not the low torque most people love for slow wheeling off road - hence the diesels
and as long as your not towing anything

that said, we wont hold it against you for having a commondoor

enjoy
