Disconnect TCU ? (Manual to auto)

hey fellas,
is it neccesary to disconnect the trans control unit, when doing an auto to manual conversion?
I'm having a high idle problem (still), and just wondering what would happen if I disconnected it. Dash lights come on, maybe?
