I'm guessing the battery is good.... give the battery posts and inside the terminals a good clean

Id be looking here first as well, over the years Ive seen some very questionable connections.
Check battery for 12v then check when you get it going whats coming out the back of the alternator

Yep obvious ones as above; battery, clean terminals and earth, fuses. Could the ignition barrel be worn?

There is a bank of fuses between main battery and the brake booster on the td42..
I'd assume the mav is in the same spot.
If it's it's a td42 it seems weird that it's just stopped dead.
The td will run with no power..

There`s 3 fusable links at the back of the battery. They are not the ones between the battery and the guard They are on the large block which is fixed to the battery mount close to the brake master cyl.
they look like a short loop of wire and the insulation is fabric, not plastic .
Sorry I cannot post a photo as I dont have the truck any more.
Can`t remember the rating but I think they are rated at 50 amps or above.

A quick easy way to check battery & battery terminals is to press the horn, it quite often fixes the problem enough to get you going.
It has something to do with the load switching on & off many times a second.
