Hello!

According to Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Patrol ) there are some significant upgrades being made on the 1992 model.

"...
revised transmission, suspension, introducing bigger brakes, bigger wheels and the standardization of limited slip diffs and auto freewheeling hubs. This update also gave the driver new seats, trim and side intrusion bars.
..."

For me the revised suspension is of interest. Does anyone here know what this suspension upgrade consist of?

Thanks
Peder

The one that I know of is the rear panhard bar bushing. I am not sure when it was changed but the earlier gqs didn't have a metal bushing in one side.

I think that's when the coil sprung ute was first released

I think it's mostly crap mate.
Gq ran the same tyres diffs and brakes threw the whole series 1 and 2.
They did introduce a twin piston caliper for the front discs but that was very late and they are hard to find.
Suspension setup is the same as what's in the current gu's..
They have always run an lsd unless the had a factory rear locker.
The auto hubs were bought in in the gu models and most swap them for the manuals anyway as the autos are known to cause hassles. .
The new Gu still comes with 31" tyres, same as the first gq..
Back in the day they did offer a 'wide wheel package' which included flares and a 7" wide rim to fit 10.5" tyres..
Seats and trims only changed due to colour and model of car..
Dx came with vynal and manual widows and the st came with carpet and electronic windows..
Never heard of the side intrusion bars lol..

If your looking for a good brake upgrade it's much easier to source a set of gu diffs and bolt them in your gq..
Also grab the steering box, brake booster and steering and tie rods.
That will also give you bigger cv joints, a better turning circle and a much stronger setup all over.

The twin piston calipers were in all 4.2 EFI patrols.
Some very early poverty pack GQ's didn't have an LSD either.
A lot of the later model GQ's also had automatic free wheeling hubs.

Thanks for all the input!

I was not aware of the “Series 1” and “Series 2” partitions. After a google session I soon found that Series 2 was implemented in 1992 – the year in question. This led me to the following two links:

http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/nissan-patrol-gq-y60-ford-maverick-11/series-1-2-a-19699/
http://www.4wdaction.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=54321

Reading the two threads above - the only difference between series 1 and 2, suspension-wise, is (as far as I can tell) the attachment of the steering damper. In one of the series the damper is attached to the panhard rod and in the other on to the frame (I am not able to judge which is which).

But to call this a suspension change may be a bit of an overstatement? :)

Interesting..
I have a S1 and dampener is the current drag link to panhard setup.
But mine is a 91 so could be the last of the s1's..
