Hi guys,
It's been a while since my last post as I had to sell the GU. Not happy about that, but now looking at a 92 4.2l Maverick with just over 200k on the clock.
Any tips on what I need to be looking for?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Scott

Petrol or Diesel? if Petrol then consider looking for an EFI model if your budget allows. Note sure what year they came in?

Just so happens I have a road report here on what to look for when buying a 2nd hand GQ.
After reading the whole lot all I can say is look at the engine mounts ,condition of the rear door hinges
and maybe rusty rear window sills. other than that they say they are pretty well bulletproof,
Pre 92 had some steering issues but any would be fixed by now, 200K on a 4.2 diesel just run in lol
Look underneath for signs of hard off road use, scraped diffs,, dents in fuel tanks etc

Thanks Td. It is completely stock. No lift, no accessories, cheese cutters. I don't think it has ever been off the black stuff. Very excited.

check the gutters for rust especially near the rear

hub seals, leaky shocks, check for worn bushes (panhard etc), engine mounts, gearbox mounts (on top of the chassis cross member), milky sludge under the engine oil filler cap.
and what Stropp and TD have mentioned about rust....... have a good look at the bottom of the rear quarter panels too, near the rear mudguards.
oh and have a good look at the top of the rear spring housing for cracks where it joins the chassis- not common on the GQ but still happens.

If you can, get an inspection camera and check the inside of the chassis rails for rust. Also check the rear spring mounts for cracking where they are welded to the chassis.

Make sure there are no leaks around the injector pump as that is very costly...

I am hoping with no off road Spring mounts should be ok. Haven't got an inspection camera but check for other signs of rust.
