Public Warning - Do Not Deal With Navigation Systems Australia and www.navigationau.com

18 August 2015

NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe today issued a warning to the public not to deal with Navigation Systems Australia and its website www.navigationau.com.

Navigation Systems Australia is an online store trading through the website www.navigationau.com.

It sells Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Satellite Navigation (SATNAV) software updates and electronic navigation maps for various types and models of motor vehicle.

Goods are ordered through the website and payment is only available by direct deposit into a bank account.

While the domain name suggests the trader is based in Australia, Navigation Systems Australia is based in Guildford in the United Kingdom.

Navigation Systems Australia is not a registered business name and does not hold an Australian Business Number (ABN).

Mr Stowe issued the public warning in the public interest under section 86A of the Fair Trading Act 1987.

Fair Trading has received a number of complaints from consumers who paid for DVD navigation updates for in-built GPS systems on various models of motor vehicles and received faulty and/or non-compatible products.

The trader has refused to replace faulty and/or non-compatible products or provide a refund in lieu of replacement.

Mr Stowe said this conduct has resulted in detriment to NSW consumers.

Efforts to resolve consumer complaints and ensure compliance have not been successful.

Consumers who have had dealings with Navigation Systems Australia or www.navigationau.com and are unable to resolve their dispute should contact NSW Fair Trading on 13 32 20.
