Hi guys,
can any one tell me if the sender on the end of the camshaft puts out a pulse per revolution or a constant voltage or what? I'm wanting to know what signal the sender puts out.

I'm driving a 1992 Nissan Safari with the silvertop TD42. Being a safari the main system is 24v, and I am sure the instrument cluster is too because A I havent found the reducer yet, and B the voltage of all the panels, windows, lights, and everything else is 24v.

Cheers, Dylan

I think the manual says check for a rising AC voltage. You should read around 1v AC at idle 650 rpm and around 2.6v AC at 2000.
It's an inductive pickup so it's independent of the vehicle voltage. If it's in front of the cam gear, it's activated by the 6 holes in the gear.
You should also be able to read the rising frequency as revs/volts rise.

Edit: Here are some typical figures I dug up:

625 rpm = 1.03v AC - 38.5 Hz
1000 rpm = 1.45v AC - 55.3 Hz
2000 rpm = 2.66v AC - 105.5 Hz

Sweet thanks mate, had the man out and had a squiz but couldnt find it. Would it not be easier on every one if they put out a pulse once per revolution? I mean that would make life so much simpler for everone

cheers, dylan
