Was a good day. Lovely weather and bloody fun tracks and minimal damage. Have a heap of pics will get them up a bit later, need to do a bit of storing. Would have been great to drive but will definatly revist sometime. Was good being a navi although only had to run the winch out once for AB. Daz had a bit more of a work out with Winnie due to 33s but happy days ☺

Yeah 35s make such a massive difference. I skull dragged up an entire hill and diff plowed the whole way up, AB drove straight up it.

This is the vid of the First rock. You get some perspective here on how big the Rock was and what the chances were of getting past without taking out the side of the car. The clay base was wet. It was going to end in tears for sure.

A little tip for all.. when looking at this sorta think steer the front into the wall a bit.. the fronts will try and climb a bit and bring the diff up a bit, thus less scraping..
But epic tracks..

Yes nice in theory Kallen. There were a couple of ways to get it done.
1. Take the chicken track running beside this track
2. Get the shovel out and cut the rut to allow the wheels to climb out and then drive on top of the ruts to the drivers side.
Neither of these options really drove the track though.
3. With a shovel cut along the side of the rut and place the dirt in the rut making it shallower and drive.
4. Skull drag.
Option 4 was the simplest way to get it don't.
In Clay ruts that are moist steering into the side is pointless unless you have big biters, even then wet clay can make a Simex ET look like an AT pretty smartly.
Using the side grip can work well in the Bic High Country where there is little clay but plenty of shale and Rock.
You can see on the vid that Winnie has got all 4 wheels spinning with Zero advantage. He was a passenger.

Here's my photos for the day,
64648
Ellis track is pretty much straight off the bitumen. Lock the hubs, air down and straight into the pebbles. . . . I mean boulders!!
64649
64650
First obstacle. Decided to by bypass this one. No point risking major panel damage for the sake of it. Was still pretty technical to get around but was pretty much the only chicken track we took. Most of the chicken tracks are still pretty knarly, you'd be seriously pushing your luck trying to get up this track in something not well set up without doing some damage that's for sure, or getting seriously stuck.

Unfortunately for some there wasn't much damage for the day. Bent rim and a few scrapes on the bar work. This track has the potential for damage and we saw plenty of evidence of it. Rear bar, rock sliders and front bar are pretty much mandatory to avoid any nasty panel damage.
64696
64697
Again photos don't do it justice, but this was a pretty technical section with some pretty big boulders. Winnie drove well and punched it up out of the clay embankment. I was too slow running behind but would have made a good photo with the front of the car airborne.

Hopefully there will be some residual mud by the time they open it....
Always plenty to do on the rig, I'm debating whether to do the quarter chop and rear bar. Wouldn't mind having a crack at making the bar, but I'm not too confident doing the Qtr chop myself. Will do a search on the forum, I'm sure there is a DIY thread.

I very much recommend the rear quarter chop before you do this track and if you don't have rocksliders, you will destroy your sills on this track.

G'day Dave,
AB knows a top bloke for that in 'Lilydale' I believe. Really did come up a treat, final folded edges near spot on too. By memory the price wasn't worth bothering with DIY, leave it to the pro's and do some OT ourselves to make up the $$ difference.
Rossco is worth a quiz on rear bars when he returns.
Or trade in and buy a ute, problem near solved :-)

I might get in touch with him when I get back.
Did a similar track on the weekend, lots of big rocky sections with massive boulders in the middle. Was sitting on the rock sliders a few times. End up putting a small dent in the rear qtr, just above the tail light, (not too bad, should be able to suck it back out).
But the worst part was, the guy that was on the camera was more focused on filming the bug splatter on my windscreen and bonnet rather than filming the whole track from a distance.... so all I got was this shitty video on my car rocking back and forth on the screen.... no photos :(

3 months enough to brush out the cob webs and bird nests?
I probably can't do it 3 months. I may not have not have anyone to cover me due to away projects if I have leave.

Nowhere! All the good tracks get closed. But Mt Sunday is similar terrain hey Rossco.
We need to do another trip out there but is a long long way from Ellis.

Yeah i recon definatly 5 car limit for these tracks. There's a few in the gentle annie area which is not far but these are SC too. The only tough ones close & open in winter are rocky & reds east but with well set up car would only take a couple of hrs. Yes mt sunday not a bad track i guess . . .

That is correct, i am also assuming that barkely river jeep track will be open if you are looking mout sunday road. As for rocky and red east (walking track) they are my favourites up there with ellis and alcorns track at cobaws, i have done them all many times in my triton in the wet and in the dry, in the dry always crawled straight up both without stopping takes about 5 to 10 mins, in the wet different story.

Sorry guys I've been offline. Amelia broke her finger at 6:30pm and is in Hospital waiting for plastic surgery. just walked in at home. Keen as guys, just need to make the GQ work but think that is doable for sure.

I'm thinking of heading up this coming long weekend 11/12 March for a bit of a look, if anyone is keen to join?
Don't necessarily have to do Ellis or Cummins tracks... I'm happy to explore the surrounding area.
In saying that, if anyone is really keen on doing those two track then I'll leave the kids at home.

My life's a bit chaotic at the moment unfortunately mate, full time daddy doesn't leave much room for play but keen.
Give us a bump closer to the date but I'm a big question mark on going with what's happening at my neck of the woods lately.
