View Full Version : Steering with the throttle

Over the last couple of weeks I've noticed my GU4 is throttle steering a fair bit.

When I accelerate, it steers to the left and when I back off it steers to the right. This is most evident when changing gears. As I accelerate I gently steer right to counteract the wandering left, then when I change gear it dart right as I now have a bit of right lock on. Don't get me wrong I'm not talking about a huge anount here, but definitely enough to wander and wobble around within the lane.

Things to consider are my wagon has a 2" lift and I suspect the caster is lacking as it has never really wanted to track straight. Would this be causing it? As I accelerate the left hand side lifts more than the right thus further reducing cster on the left causing it to wander? Could it be steering from the rear due to worn out bushes? It has a full set of brand new Superior Engineering upper and lower arms and a new panhard, these were put in about 2,500km ago, so I'm assuming here that they should be Ok.

Your thoughts.

Do you have an auto lokka in the rear , its called torque steer I think
Had it big time in my other 4x4

No auto locker in the rear. I don't have to be accelerating very hard for it to happen, it occurs on very light throttle as well. Obviously the harder you go the more it does it. Problem is I've changed a lot of stuff including a wheel alignment in a short period of time which makes it hard to work out what's causing it.

Could it be the Superior engine mount on the passenger side which has zero flex and translates every engine movement into a chassis and hence suspension geometry movement?

Bingo Yep I think the enertia is being transfered more because of the engine mount

If you take your hands off the wheel does it turn, or is it like its steering from the rear end?

I'll test that theory in an hour.

It did seem worse after I put all the mounts in.

Sounds like worn rear control arm bushes.
