Hi guys, as you are all aware we have been melting here in SA, so the old A/C has been getting a bit of a work out.
Problem is now the rig smells like Growlers socks, When you hop in from previous use and as soon as I turn the A/C on it smells like poop, mouldy musty disgusting stench for the first few minutes. Anyone else had this problem and what can be done to stop it.
Seriously it's not a healthy smell

My Q had the same problem, so I pulled the fan housing out. I used a vacuum cleaner to suck as much crud out of the cooler fins and to unblock the drain. I then used a disinfectant and water to wash it out. I also used an air hose (with low pressure) to dry it out.
I have now fitted an air filter to stop the leaves, rat droppings and dust from entering the fan.

Leah's Navara had the exact same smell but Growler lives miles away from me so I looked further into it and the drain tray was just full of crud from all the dust.

g`day Pete .
Check the drain holes on either side of the air in take, these some times block with mud and crud.
Beers and Cheers mate

The air inlet to the system from the outside the drain hole are normally inside the front guards.
They get blocked with leaves and dirt that finds it way through the vents up at the windscreen.
Cause more rust than stink, but sometimes rotting plant life does stink.
Sorry not much help mate, ask at a panel shop they may be able to point you in the right direction.

My Olds had a mouse plague this year.. and a baited mouse ended up in the heater core of the air con unit..
Omg they couldn't drive the "mouse mobile"..
The smell has also penatrated the fabric interior but it's slowly getting better

There are few different ones, a can of Glen 20 is cheaper & a pump sprayer with 70%metho & 30% water will work, run AC on recirculate & spray into passengers footwell, run AC for a few minutes, shut down & leave to soak for an hour, open all the doors & run the fan without AC until safe to enter. But you need to find what is dead, the condensation from the AC will keep it moist & stinky, have you upset anyone enough that they would put fishing bait in your vents?
On my old GQ ute I opened up the AC housing under the dash, laid down a tarp & gave it a good hose out.
