I'm trying to get a '90 Maverick ready for a Roadworthy Cert. One of the things the mechanic pointed out was the reversing lights not working correctly. That should be easy to fix - or so I thought.
I've check the reversing light switch one the gear box and confirmed that this is OK, fuse OK, bulbs OK. I traced one of the wires from switch (Yellow/Red) and this was connected into the loom, and heads off in the direction of the Relays box. The other wire from the switch wasn't connected (Green/white), it was just sitting there, but had the small connector pin, like the ones that are part of a connector block - So it was a matter of finding where this had to be connected. Starting at the rear I am able to trace the reversing wire to underneath the car, into the passenger side and back to the engine bay, from here there is a connector and the wire changes colour, (Green/Dark Brown) that then appears to go back into the loom and doesn't appear in the fuse panel. No where along the way is there anywhere to connect the Green/white wire from the switch.
Along the way I was able to check the circuit from the rear of the car to make sure I have the right wires, but late in the day getting tired, I cooked the wires - specially the Yellow Red. So I stopped, the next day I had a Auto Electrician come and have a look - he pointed out the wires were cooked - ohhh really!!! - and that I would need to take it to the workshop and it would cost about $1,000 to fix. - Yeah not going there....
Now in the process the rear washer and wipers are not working, but did manage to fix the interior light and clock. (Yeah for me)
Question:
1. Can someone tell me what fuse the reversing lights use.
2. Any thoughts on why the connected wire - (Yellow/Red would be going into the relays box area)?
3. Could someone email or provide a electrical wiring diagram? the current wiring in the vehicle has been attached by previous owners and is all over the shop.
4. Any other suggestions on how to test and fix the wiring would be appreciated.
Cheers - Tim
