I have the oppurtunity to get some blue stones pitches by the truck load Yeah me.
The idea is to replace my side wooden fence with the blue stones.
Now all you learned ppl out there is a single row enough or does it need to be double row
held together with ties, I realize it will need a footing of at least 600mm of concrete.
Open to suggestions as this will eventually be another outdoor style room, TV etc

If your building something your then going to want to use as part of a structure then you will need a Building Permit and engineered footing system.if your just building a 1m high fence then you could consider just stacking them. No footing. Or bluestone footing founded at 450 to 600 depending on where you are. A concrete footing would clearly be better but the conc will cost you more than free about stones will.

My specialty is heritage structure specializing in Bluestone and Rubble footings.

@ MR my idea is to pull down the side fence that includes my carport to the end of the house 13.5 mtrs
then weather proof it with a roof of some description.
Early days so far .

Lol. I am a Building Consultant specializing in subsidence and foundation movement. I specialist in assessing and remedial work for Heritage structures. I do heaps of Double brick on bluestone footings. I don't build me I just fix em.

3D has your son been given the all clear to remove them from site? What municipality? City of Yarra for instance demand that if your working in one of their BS lane ways you have to account for every BS block. If I want to drill a 16mm hole in their road I need a Road a Opening Permit (excavation) if I was pulling up blocks I would have to define how I was going to lift them, how I was going to manage their OffSite a storage and Security and how I was going to relay them to achieve original condition.

They are very protective of their heritage listed Bluestone lane ways.

I dont think there are any restrictions on the BS, they are from Glen Iris.
I'll find out more today.

Your difficulty will be finding an Engineer willing to certify a design. He will have to design and certify the concrete strip footing to Code and then certify the technique for building the wall from Bluestone. Depending on height and wind rating you may need double skin and to incorporate your roof structure as a brace.

I can probably point you to someone but expect to spend at least a couple of grand mate.

Sounds like you've been watching Restoration Australia on channel 2.
I love those dry rock walls that dot our countryside, plenty of History there

Height wise it would only be 2.4 mtr I would imagine,
like I said its very early ATM
