So I've decided to sell my Navara D40 and go back to basics.... so I bought a '96 GQ, TD4.2. Couple of months of searching I finally got one this week. Now I just need to sell the Nav.

Picked this one up, stock as a rock for $7000. Apart from the bullbar, she's untouched. Few KMs on her 500k, but the vehicle has never even been driven over a grass nature strip, let alone offroad. No a single scratch or brush on the underbody. Chassis is in excellent condition. No rust on the roof gutters, rear windows, or other common spots.

Planned Mods

the cheap and easy:
- roofracks
- dual batt
- CB radio
- Winch (does anyone know where I can get a cradle that will bolt the winch direct onto the chassis and not on the bullbar?)
- snorkel
- diff breathers

the pricey and complex:
- 4" lift
- 34" tires (I'm still trying to work out how this and the above can be done legally in WA, advice welcome)
- rear diff lock

and one day, i hope..... TURBO!

Welcome mate. Interesting to see your fuel filter is fitted to the drivers side.
It's were it should be but due to use having RH drive they placed it on the passenger side.
You may find it a pita to change the oil filters with it there..
Apart from that looks like a good buy

Anyone in WA know where I can get a cheap full size roof rack and a cargo barrier for the GQ?

Oh, and some anchor points for child seats?

I've got the roof rack and cargo barrier sorted. Picked up the roof rack on ebay for $399 + del. Much better than what the local dealers around Perth were charging (~$1400). I don't know how they are still in business.

Also read that a few people have managed to successfully fit a GU cargo barrier into a QG, so I got one of those as they are very easy to find and cheap. (I got quoted ~$640 from two local dealers. For what? a bit of chicken wire on a square metal frame???

I should have named this thread "The start of something expensive..."

I think I'm finally done.

$7000 for the truck + another $16,535 for mods and gear. (probably a bit more when you include bits n pieces, nuts n bolts etc)

Although I did get $525 from selling a couple of old parts, so it's allllllllllllllllllllllll goooood!!

Here is the outcome.... (a couple of latest additions not shown in those photos)

haha, yes the spreadsheet is a bit too much, but it started off when I was doing the initial build up. I had so many things I wanted to do, I had to note it all down somewhere so I don't forget. I also used to paste links of websites where I'd buy it from, so a lot of research went into it. It was also a good way to see how much money I'd need to spend.

Now that it's all done, it kind of keeps me in line, when you realise how quickly these things add up, 50 bucks here, 100 bucks there, it does make you think twice about spending on the next bit.
