Seeing as my last thread went belly up really quick, thought I'd try a new one.
I actually quite interested to know how this forum got started. Do all mods know each other personally, and gone ' hey this sounds like a cool idea' how long has it been operating and any other useless info ( u could help with that, bigrig.

I got involved with the forum as a member in its first few weeks. To this day I've never met any of the other mods or admin (AB), I was asked to take on the moderators role late last year.

Forums first birthday coming up next month..21st May(i think) is when AB started the website and forum

Good question Kat...
I think the forum officially started back at May last year, when my daughter was born and I had 2 weeks off work...lol
I bought the website name at the start of last year as it was still availible and couldn't believe noone had it already.
Not even sure what the plan was for it but I love 4wding and Patrols of course. I work with Timbo and he suggested to start a forum on it. But with a forum you need members of course which was the hard part. Timbo helped a lot with the layout and starting off with the general common questions and problems with patrols and I spent the entire 2 weeks off holding a new born and emailing every single 4wd club in Australia. I mean pretty much every single club....I think there was around 600-800 clubs that I personally emailed. Researched who was the president, etc to make sure it was a personal email directed towards them which near killed me.
Dribs and drabs came on the forum until one day I emailed the Western Patrol Club. Next minute I had about 30 or so members sign up one night and start throwing pics up and chatting...You ripper!
Then one night I was sitting back chatting to the 50 or so members on there and next minute we had about 200 people sign up and the forum went nuts from then on...I couldn't believe how many people jumped on all of a sudden but figured out that someone had posted a link on another forum and everyone started to pour over here.
We kept a tight ship with friendly attitudes etc which drove away the smartasses and kept the good genuine people.
Paul (Patch697) fell in love with the site and started to post up like a madman and helping everyone from the start.
Kris, Rohan, Doggy, Tony, Finly, Rossco, GEC, Bloggsy, Rusty Nails, and Todd were some of the new members back then too and helped out greatly to get it off and running....Apologies If I missed some of the old members
Doggy really joined in and helped out the forum like it was his own and then Tony joined up who put so much valueable info into this it was just incredible.
I have only met a hand full of people on here and can't wait to meet them all at the Easter 2012 bash!!!

I probably missed a hell of a lot inbetween but if I remember anything I'll add it to here.
Oh yeah, I now have a permanent click in my wrist from sending the emails out...I started to get RSI from it...lol
This was the general email that probably peed off about 2000 people around Australia...lol
Hi,
I’m Andrew Batty from www.nissanpatrol.com.au (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/).
We have developed a dedicated site for information, sales and an open forum for Nissan Patrol enthusiasts in Australia.
Our open forum is really catching on with many members discussing trips, modifications and general help with 4WD’s.
We are hoping to build a free community with all 4WD owners to help each other out.
If you are interested, would you mind letting your members know and feel free to jump on the forum and promote your club anytime.
There are lots of other 4WD clubs in the forum helping each other out.
Thanks for reading and hope to see you in our community soon.

I joined up in July 2010. Paul(Patch697) answered my first question it was "what size exhaust can I run on SD33T?" although my post history no longer has it in there.
The regulars were: Andy(Admin) Paul (Patch697) Rohan(Plasnart) Kris(NissPat) Rosscoe(DX Grunt) Wayne(The Dogman) Tony(YNOT) Todd (Toddrhind) & (Rusty Nails) and that was the regulars. Sure there were other mebers but they would come in say Hi and dissapear into bush or something then return as they still do now. Check out the Dirty Dozen thread, it's testament to our early days, then we had the Double Dirty Dozen. Now look at us.

AB, Patch 697, YNOT, DX Grunt, The Dogman, NissPat, Plasnart, Todrhind, Chops, Bob, Big Fletcha, Big Rig, Dhuck, Nowoolies, Clunk, Ferret, Katwoman, Wild ??, Growler, and so many more we see and without looking, I can't recall all of them straight off.
We now have a wonderful Network of online friends and some have even bonded in real life through this forum. We share laughs, sadness, knowledge, stupidity, mateship, and most of all a love of our Nissan Patrols, no matter how ugly or beautiful, cheap or expensive, stock or modified, lifted or not, coil or leaf, all shapes and colours, powered by whatever.
And I think this forum is here for as long as we help keep it here.
Let's also remeber AB could do with some funds now and again, and he shouldn't have to ask. If we all gave $5.00 each per 3 months, he would be in tears, as he is a humble man who hates taking charity. But it's the least I think we can do. And I for 1 am going to send a fivea on payday.
Thanks to Timbo for suggesting it, and Thanks to AB for starting and keeping it going. Thanks to all Mods, and those who do other big ones Maps-Todd, 3 word updates and AFL-Rosscoe, Tech Q's(most)-Tony, Night shift security-Adrian,Kat,Paul.
And finally all our mebers whethter you're a regular or just pop in every now and then, Thank you Too.

I agree with Bacho and it would be nice to see the bit about not wanting smartasses because some of the websites i have seen can be downright rude. With the exception of the few experts, we are all here to learn from each other and sometimes our stupidity is astounding, but then thats what learning is all about.

Well said mate!! The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked!! We are all here to help, and we were (and still are for a lot of us) all novices at one stage. Everyone has to learn and what I've found on this site is a whole heap of people who aren't ego trippers out to make you feel like a goose at the first sign if not knowing what you're doing - quite the opposite actually, with everyone putting up their hands to help where they can.

Yep I agree to.......
I was just banned from another forum, just sticking up for myself others. I disagreed with a really rude mod and comments he made about other people on the forum. So with no reason I was banned. I was then informed about this forum and how good it is, so I joined and There is a great attitude on this forum.
No love lose here, I found something better.

This sounds very familiar, i was also banned from another forum due to the Mod, have explained a little about why in another post on this site, have thoroughly enjoyed every moment on this site and will continue to frequent here as often as i can, it really is refreshing not to have to put up with over inflated egos, I have to on a daily basis where i work, is nice not to have to when i get home, Thanks to everyone on this forum, "you guys are good"
Just recognised your Avatar, I was the person you were standing up for that got you banned, sorry mate.
I never got the chance to be banned I bailed before i could get meself in too much poop. HAHAHAHAHAHA Not that I'm one to back down bloody hell i work in construction, you'd get walked all over if i did. But after hours i didnt need the agro, I wanna chat with likeminded folk about 4wding camping and the great outdoors, not argue about if black is black or white is white or if the sun sets in the west. I still go for a look over at em every now and then for a giggle and a shake of my head.
Good on ya all for makin this forum a pleasant place to visit full of useful, helpful info and advice and a good ol belly laugh as well thumbs up

Great to hear the feedback everyone, It's also funny to see pictures of the members...Sometimes you have a picture of what some people may look like...lol
Like when Kris (Nisspat) stayed at my house to pick up a wood heater the next day in Yarra Glen.
He thought I would look like a massive bloke with a huge gut, a beard, a suit and a cigar kicking back on a rocking chair..LMAO
Well he was right about the gut but thats about it...lol
