Hi,
Recently bought a 2011 GU, is there anything i should be aware of that should be swapped out? I.e. any hoses, leads etc that are prone to failing. Any stock parts that are known to wear out and should be upgraded. Anything the seasoned Patrol owners would be doing in my situation?

Nice rig mate.
First off all replacing the turbo intercooler is generally a basic on every GU. OE is prone to splitting and leaking. Not 100% on the 2011 model and what commonly fails in it. but I would get a boost gauge, egt gauge, maybe voltage gauge, oil and water pressure gauges. The last few are not a must but Basically as much as u can to keep an eye on what's happening in there.
But I'm sure there will be heaps of information coming at you.

Buy a genuine Nissan Serpy Belt as a spare.
Buy a Scan gauge or equivalent OBD device and set it to display Water temp, fuel useage, boost and the 4th display to whatever suits you.
Don't drive it like Miss Daisy, they like to be revved.
Keep an eye on teh Intercooler but no need to replace it unles it gets pretty bad (the Turbo will still boost the same with small weeps)
Enjoy it, they go fine ex factory and then mod it after you get used to it.

Good advice from ET (the Scangauge loads those items as a default).
I have a 2010 GU and have had it about six or so months. After lots and lots of reading, bugging the guys at the Western Patrol Club and reading some more, I understand so much more about my car and engine.
Before the engine though, I started with safety items first, which I think is a must if you are contemplating going off road. First off were recovery points (thanks to threedogs' and his excellent points) and a decent shackle to fit into the tow bar. Next was a double din unit including a reverse camera so I could see little kiddies etc. then draws so I could properly secure the rest of my recovery gear.
After that, it really depends on what you want to do, tour, serious off road, day trips only etc etc... After all that time, I am now ready to go with engine mods. First up, a scanguage. Not really a mod, but got me understanding what was going on under the bonnet. Next, a pyrometer to keep and eye on the exhaust temp, a boost meter for the turbo (I am hitting limp mode now and again so need to address this) and an auto trans gauge to see what's going on there.
Next, a catch can and blanking plate because (a) they are inexpensive and (b) will go some way to getting more fresh air to the engine. Better economy and performance. Then a Dawes and needle kit and a larger exhaust for much the same reason. With a 2011 model highly unlikely you will need an inter cooler up front so park that one. These should get you going. Of course, there's also. Lift kits and so on, but work out what you want to do in your troll before spending on those.
I have yet to add the gauges, just waiting for the last one to arrive and will do them all together mounted in a pillar pod so as to be neat and tidy. I will take some pics and add to my Beagle Mobile Mods thread.

After gauges Id be putting in a catch can and EGR blocking plate, some decent side steps.
What are you using the Patrol for, touring ,,, remote style camping or power lines with the boys
Being from perth I think an awning would come in handy lol
on that note a legal window tint and decent LT tyres

Thanks guys!
Threedogs initially i'll be using it for touring, camping and beach driving, nothing too hectic to start off. Can you recommend some good online stores for parts?
