Gearing up for all oil changes in my '99 GU RD28Ti in preparation for the cold

Just read the manual and see that the gearbox oil calls for 80W-90 GL-4 gear oil. I just realize that I bought GL-5 gear oil. Is this a problem or can I use the GL-5 in the transmission or do I need to go back and try to find GL-4? What is the difference between the 2?

Hi, I once put gl-5 in my gearbox and it made it very hard to change gears, apparently the gl-4 spec helps with the brass synchos in the patrol gearbox.
I use penrite pro gear 75-85 gl-4 and it shifts perfect. Works well under load as well. :)

Thanks mate. Penrite isn't an option over here in Siberia. Can probably find Shell, or Mobile or Castrol here. Will have to take it back and swap for the GL-4

As above. Make sure you stick to the gl-4 spec oil.
