Hi guys and gals

Can any one tell me my braked and unbraked towing capacity? I understand that this will depend on the tow ball and bar setup but I want to know the standard capacity for the vehicle. 1992 Granroad Y60 Nissan Safari LWB.

I know this vehicle has been used towing upwards of 3 tonnes in the past. We actually stopped at a fonterra weigh bridge when the truck and boat were fully loaded and the combined vehicle mass came to 5.8 tonnes. And we comfortably handled that for a good 100km trip many times without trouble. Just wondering what the book says.

cheers, Dylan.

Braked and un brake is a law thing not a car thing. Un braked up to 750kgs. Above that you must have brakes on the trailer. My 4.5L auto is good for 2500kgs. The manuals box is up to 3000kgs.

Chubba is correct...
I dunno about NZ but on the big Island
up to 750 Kg - brakes optional
750 Kg to 2,000 Kg - overrider brakes mandatory, seperate controlled system optional
2,000 Kg plus - must have seperate braking, air, lecky, air over or whatever

After that the gear kicks in for max weights IE vehicle max weight, towbar max weight and ball weight, tongue max weight, ball max weight etc.

yeah, Ive been on our NZTA website and it says that max unbraked is 2000kg, but whether its braked or unbraked, you must be able to stop completely from 30km/h within 7 meters. So I doubt we could stop that boat that quick haha
