Has anybody successfully used the Plasti dip stuff, whatever you call it... ? And by chance has any body done the grille ??
I'm experimenting with the black grille instead of chrome and chrome logo left intact. However ... I've failed.
I've completely washed, wiped, cleaned it and it was perfectly dry and clean ready for applicatoin.... Some of it turned out perfect, the rest as you can see in the photos, just turned shitty bubbly and I cannot understand why.

It will easily peel once fully dry and I can have another go, but before I waste any more... Any advice ?

Any hints and tips with this stuff ? Or more to the point any hints for painting the chrome bit of grille ??

what did you clean the grill with? you have a contaminated surface, likely a Silicon based product that is interfering. You need to fully clean the surface with a proper Wax and Grease Remover.

As above. Do a small test patch but acetone will clean it well and leave a dry surface.

It was fully washed and dried and wiped with wax and grease remover several times I made sure it was 100% dry .
Weird.

Try several light coats until you get a consistancy your happy with.

Try a better brand of wax and grease removed. Something you can rag on with a stronger activator. The SCA stuff will be junk.

Clean rags without lint or high quality paper towel.

Make sure you shake the can well also.

As above, good clean and a few light coats. Seen a mate do his dunnydore and it came up good, just light coats

Yeah that aerosol sca stuff would have to have a propellant I guess... You can buy pretty cheap stuff in a litre bottle. Even metho will work well

Thanks guys.

Once it dried I began peeling it off. I compared the bits where it had tiny dots , to where it was perfect.
Under the dotted bit, the chrome surface had tiny micro chips. So small camera couldn't pick it up. It's as if someone got a tiny needle and began poking the chrome surface.
But each micro dot on surface, matched the plastidip bubbles as I peeled it off. For some reason this affected the layer off the dip.
On the top where it ended up being good, surface was super smooth.

I wiped the shit out of it with metho and acetone. Once dry I had a second go. Identical results.

I cannot believe such micro tiny chips affect it.

I wonder if it is air molecules getting caught in the micro chips and expanding as the coating goes off?
Or stopping the coating from adhering if it can't penetrate the chips

I'm with ET on this. Had a go on mates Navara grille with similar pin holes and you guessed it same results.

Grit, prime, proper paint time it is....

You will need to seal it some how, then just use matt black paint

It's already at the paint shop getting a proper job done.

I had to pull the pin as the bloke at super cheap began to think I'm chroming them cans. Lol.
And for just over a price of one can I'll get a proper permanent finish done.

I have a camera here that fits in those large Nissan badges.
Was going to use it but nah I can judge the front pretty well
