I have a Sammy Galaxy Note 2014 Edition tablet and a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone. Both use the same chargers but the tablet uses a white charge cable and the phone uses a black. If I use the white cable in the phone it charges. If I use the black cable in the tablet it won't charge. The battery symbol will have the charge status symbol over it, but its in red. Saying something is plugged in but no charge is there.

Bizarre.

I thought crapple only did weird chit like this.....:tease:

is it just a basic USB cable? or is the power adapter/modulator thing attached at the end of it? could be something to do with the mA that the modulator is outputting? i know my kyocera phone wont charge with the iphone wall wart plug, at the out put of that is 1mA, where as its factory adapter is 2.5mA

Maybe its like that so you only use an OE charger and not be tempted by the Ebay specials lol

I haven't changed the charger itself, only the cable. Both chargers are the same mA rating too.

Both are using OE chargers and cables...

Not really bothered by it. I just find it strange.

Happens all the time mate. I got a lot of devices using that type of plug / cable.

Maybe one of them is low quality and copper inside is damaged regardless of color.

Or what I found is they are different ratings... So using one that came with my phone doesn't charge my tablet too well...

I think you mean amps not milliamps cocko but I think you're on the money with the output values.

Mark, are both chargers output the same??

Black cable will be for lower charge voltage requirements on your note2, white cable is for devices requiring a higher charge voltage, such as your tablet

but isnt the voltage the same regardless? USB is 5v no matter what??? or is charge voltage another word for amps? i wanttt toooo learrnnnnn

Most chargers these days are 5v and the only variance is the output current. High output current chargers will charge lower current devices as they will only use what they need but low output chargers will not charge high current devices.
Hope that makes sense...LOL

Yeah what Krisso said, they are all 5V but the current varies.
A 1.2A charger might charge some tablets but will do it a lot slower too.

Could be a few things...
There are "battery charging" cable protocol and "data & battery charging" cable protocols.
Both will run 5 volts on the same pins but the data pins may have a bit of trickery so that depending on the device some can tell the difference and some cannot.
A 'dumb' device will happily charge on either cable but a 'smart' device may not.

Whilst not a good anology, think of it like 10 amp and 15 amp power sockets
A 10 amp cable works on both a 15 won't.
Instead of the mechanically bigger earth pin they use an electronic 'lockout'

I just check the OEM phone charger is 5V @ 1amp. The Tablet is 5V @ 2amp. But. Its the cables I have changed over. Not the Chargers. The cables must be sensitive to the amp rating or something.

FWIW, I've just unpacked a brand new charger and cable, from my S4 phone, straight out of the box unused. So i tried that cable only, to charge my Galaxy Tab S 8.4, and it has trouble charging it, but works flawlessly on my S4 and S6 phone ???
Same outcome across several different chargers.

I can only imagine that cable and/or cable end plugs, has/have a different current/charge rating ...
