6 months old from new, 3.0l auto and have just discovered an irregularity with cruise control. The cruise works well on level and mildly undulating rises on the highway. If a hill comes along that is a little steep it slows about 6kmh then appears to floor the engine downshifts and accellerates to 5kmh above the set speed and backs right off and will continue this cycle until it reaches the top of the rise. Manual throttle control on the same hill just stays in od without loss of speed or downshifting. Otherwise runs a treat, only 8000km on the clock.

I have a Nissan Maxima and the Cruise Control does the same. My Patrol is a Manual and it just drops out of Cruise Control when it cant maintain the speed.

I haven't noticed mine doing that, but don't use cruise very often.
I've got a short trip up the mountains and back tomorrow so I'll throw a post then..

Anything behind it when it happens or is it all the time by itself

In short the Nissan CC is... uuuummmm... lets say 'not up to the standard of the vehicle'.

Many suffer from hunting and surges around the 90 to 110 KPH which is the main area you want to use it.

Several people have complained of excessive hunting up hills such as you describe and one recent post I saw the dude said his would hunt up to 15 KPH.

Seems you either get one problem or the other. My Patrol had a 'software' change on the last service (80K) to fix the 100 KPH problem which had been in there since almost new. Prev owner was going to get it fixed at 60K but sold teh truck and I just hadn't bothered to whinge about it till now.

They didn't fix it completely but it did get a lot better however I find that if a Chip is fitted it makes the problem significantly worse

I haven't done any towing with it yet. It doesn't have to be a very steep incline for it to act up, because you can drive it manually over the same hill without any kickdown.

Thanks for coming back to me.
cheers GN.
