I have to do a bit of rewiring under the patrol. It's a tight squeeze. I want to work on the front end, engine bay.

I was looking at putting it on stands.
I am some what inclined to place it on 4 stands and also block under the wheels, just in case.

The stands are 3t rated.

So should I put it on 2 stands up front and block the rear wheels, or just put the whole chassis on 4 stands?

I only ever use 2 stands... mainly because I only have, yep, you guessed it, 2 stands...

Rear wheels are better support for the car than stands. So stands on the front only, chock the rear wheels. I also leave the trolley just under the diff as extra support. If the wheels are coming off, throw them under the chassis rails too.

Wheels aren't coming off, but I intend to place some blocks under them anyway.

i made some ramps for when i don't have to remove wheels. solid timber. drive on drive off. easier than jacking and no chance of it falling. but just 2 is fine with chocked wheels

Personally if not taking the wheels off drive the rear up onto ramps and Jack the front up for stands..

I have 4 x solid timber ramps, and use low range getting up onto em
you may be surprised at effort needed to mount 4 ramps at once safely!
Or 2 ramps on front, chock rear, and safety jacks under front chassie or axle.
Car ver's Man = CAR WINS if it falls off!.

Maybe have a death wish, have used 4 HD stands for years. Sometimes leave the trolly jack under the diff if its out of the way.
Once its on the stands, it does get a good shake to make sure its solid though.

Yeah i always give the car a good shake too. Just so the car can settle on the stands if it needs.

Not a bad idea to have a spotter even if its just the Missus or a mate.
As we all know you can take all the precautions in the world and something
could go amiss, never F%$* with safety, you just never know if we did we'd

Haha, I'm sure she would love that. Me mucking around under there for a few hours like recently with front to rear oil changes!

I'm going to tell her she should have done this for my protection when she gets home from work, any wagers what her reaction might be?

I remember when I had my first car, a HQ and the rear springs had to be aligned as it was coming down. The old man was on the jack and I was half under the car. All of a sudden it slipped off and it was centimeters away from my face. Not much was said, was something like this. All in a monotone
You alright.
Yeah, what happen?
I don't know the jack is still up.
Ever since I do Mudski trick first give it a shake

A mate of mine Mick Blanthorne bigger than two brick out houses[mechanic]
was working under a 55 chev something let loose , those that were there said he pushed the empty
55 chev body off himself. A fair feat in anyones book.
Geez I shite myself when the GU slipped off a jack, happy ending lol
