View Full Version : Africa down under - dodgy shock absorber fitment?

Greetings
Hope you can help!
I have a 2007 Patrol ST that I brought over from WA to Cape Town South Africa as I am here on a 5 year work contract. Single owner around 120,000 km on the clock, full Nissan service history.

Nissan Cape Town fitted new shocks front and back (old shocks were Nissan standard). Before I left Perth I also fitted 16" split rims rims for the bush in place of the 17" Ali rims.

I am a little suspicious about the front shocks because it looks like the front diff was rotated slightly clockwise (diff PTO pointing slightly upwards) to accommodate a shorter shock absorber. Reason I say this is because (1) the alignment between diff and front prop via the universal looks a little "out" and (2) the coil spring looks a little "bent". Is this possible? See attached photo's (apologies, they are upside down). Added to my suspicion is that in these parts of the world Patrols are not common and Nissan Cape Town were actually clueless. Any advice on how I can check this out properly?

I have been told that the splits are difficult to balance as well. Also,I assume that when I do a tyre repair (already done a few in the bush), I loose the wheel balancing?

Also have a little bit of turbo whistle. Is that a problem?
I am not a car specialist so need all the advice I cab get here!
Thanks for the help in advance

Hi mate, please head over and start an introduction thread and say g'day. You will find a great bunch of guys here and you might need them over the next 5 years.

What size lift did you fit? Did you fit springs and shocks or just springs? What brand? Looks like you need a caster correction.

Not sure about the shocks but I get a little bit of turbo whistle from my 2007 as well.
