GU 4.2 TD: Effect of running lean

Following refuelling my Patrol with apparently "dirty" diesel, the car has been running roughly, lacking power and very poor acceleration. Inspections today revealed a dirty main fuel filter and an almost blocked gauze filter. This apparently caused the engine to run lean. Has anyone experienced a similar problem, and does this result in the engine running hot? I am thinking of arranging to have the fuel tank thoroughly cleaned out to prevent a reoccurrence! Regards. Won't make the engine run hot as in a petrol engine. A diesel will just run rough. The only damage that could possibly occur would be due to vibration if you just kept running it lean. Cleaning the tank and all filters should put it back to normal.
