3 inches lift kit installed

Hi Guys,

few months ago I installed a 3" lift kit by myself.

Pretty time consuming, especially when you have to work in a small garage and with basic tools... however I´m pretty happy that I did it and with the outcome.

The kit was composed by Though Dog coils and shocks, front and rear bars, sway bar links, brake line extensions and the drop boxes.

Everything works pretty fine, however soon after the kit was installed I can hear a noise which seems to come from the front train. Always happens when turning in each direction and especially if I turn while accelerating (on a give way for instance, or when entering a roundabout). The noise is sounds "Kluk" and not sure what it could be... torques seems to be ok, coils seat properly on their places...

Any suggestion???

how old is the car? is it just 1 Kluk per turn or more like a Kluk - Kluk - Kluk - kluk? (could be a duck?) :p

My first thought was the auto hub, if it has them. Then i thought maybe the coils are shifting. Did you replace the coil hats?
Also will it do theis noise if stationary? Get someone in the car to turn the wheel back and forth so you can have a look.
And what model Patrol we talking....

Car is pretty old, GU Series I with 350K in the clock.

Thanks too for your reply. I didn't replace the coil hats, because they seemed to me in pretty good shape, just cleaned them and put some silicone on. The noise does not happen if the car is stationary, just when moving and especially when accelerating (typically after a give way when you are turning).

The model is a 98GU TB45.

Did you tension your radius arm to diff bolts?? These are a shocker and can flog out if not tight.
Worth double checking.
Also check the drop boxes are all tight.. do up the bolt which goes into the old radius arm mount first before doing the gear box mount plates..

O.k... The front panhard rod where it connects to the chassis next to the steering box. Does it have the large spherical bush in it? Can you feel the kluk through the steering wheel?
Reason for my asking, I had a very similar issue, but I could feel it through the wheel. Like yours it only happened when moving and turning, and while the suspension was compressing. But as time went on it got worse and did it whilst stationary. Turned out the top panhard rod bush was rooted. Even though my rods were barely 18 months old.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions!!! Big weekend waits for me since I have to do basic service maintenance (oil change, filters and clean body throttles...) and I will extend to check everything you suggested.

My post lift clunks were the rear bushes on the front trailing arms and the sway bar links being loose.

Happy hunting, chasing down clunks, squeaks and rattles is a never ending and frustrating process!

Yeah it sounds like a movement correction type noise by the description. Ie. Springs moving in the seat (the Silicon spray you used could have caused this), a panard bush knackered, maybe even a sway bar link knackered. Radius arm bushes could cause this too.

Do you have any vibration under braking? (Wobbling steering wheel) can you hear any clunks etc when hitting a speed hump? You would hear your radius arm bushes here.
