Hi ya Pogsy. Screw the boost up as far as it will go mate. Usually until you hit limp mode then back it off to just under...The high boost wont hurt anything. Mine was running 25psi for two years without any issues.
As for egt's. The lower the better but anything north of 450c I'd be wary imo. Mine nefer got over 380c. And that was hauling my camper at 110ks.

I just took the Dawes valve and needle off if Ya know anyone that wants it $80 was only on for a couple of days , paid $140 , couldn't get it to work right egt,s were hitting 500 just going up half decent incline and too many times for limp mode for my liking , it's my first ever turbo vehicle so I took it too total care in sevo , I wanna build something that's Gona last be safe and I'm gonna go about it different , one of my mates worked with the guy ( Jason ) for years and quality over budget I think is the way to go , I wanna travel outback and remote with some confidence

Sounds like you just didn't have the valves adjust right there mate. I wouldn't give up. Once you get it tuned rigyt it will go better than you will ever be able to without them.
Leaving the boost control up to the ecu isn't going help your motor last and be safe thats for sure. Unfortunately on those motors you are very limited on what you can do to them.
Bigger intercooler, upgrade the air intake, upgrade ths maf housing and air box, chip and exhaust is pretty much it. Turbo your stuck with. Forefront Industries make an upgrade turbo but the only difference its billet. Apparently it helps with faster spool up...

X2 with Mudski something wasn't right, have another go.
Have a read [google] of Chaz Yellowfoots thread about NADS, great easy to read diagrams.
Definetly dont give up once set you wont know its the same Patrol
Maybe there is a member nearby who can help you.
You need to NADS your motor, 15psi is about average, spiking at 18psi and higher sometimes
The boost and egt gauges allow you to see whats happening to the motor with every mod you do.
I must have if you ask me.

EDIT You'll kick yourself for not fitting the dawes ,needle ,etc believe me
