Hi all,

Well i bought the 2001 gu 3ltr turbo/diesel today. Good condition all round. 280000 ks.
Water temp gauge sits just under halfway (does that sound right?)

What are good boost and pyro gauges to get?

Cheers.

Phil

do a bit of research on the dash temp gauge. They are not reliable for an accurate temp - many experiencing 20 degree variance in temp without seeing the dash gauge move. I run a separate water temp gauge, and see it move around a bit under load, but the dash one never moves - so i go of my aftermarket one for accuracy.

Re the gauges - i bought a set of autotechnica ones of ebay - they are cheaper than the big brands like VDO - but ive had no issue with them

Cheers,
Jack

I have a Watchdog Engine Temp gauge im taking out of my old 4wd and putting in my patrol, it has a user set alarm on it and works good.

Been reserching gauges and evan the dear ones give people trouble.

Might go the Autotechnica ones also, $139 for both on fleabay.

Cheers

Absolutly agree with TD about NADS and boost and EGT are the first step.

water temp is not high on my list even though I have them ready to be fitted.
I think Jack may be referring to the GQ temp gauge,
Ive found the GU one pretty good so far.
You can buy triple gauge pillar pods .
Reason we say fit boost and EGT gauges is not only the "grenade" factor,
but mainly to monitor what your motor is doing with each and every mod you do.
Be it Dawes or bigger exhaust or EGR block, more a engine monitoring system.
A good bit of Kit for the Di motor is an ECU-Talk, like the Scan gauge for the CRD

Nup im referring to the GU Gauge. Mines a 2011 CRD and the gauge is useless - Dosent move with 20deg temp change. My installed water temp gauge is much more accurate.

Mine is the same - sits just above half way. I think its just set there and has nothing to do with water temp.LOL

I use my ECU_Talk as it has an alarm if it gets a bit warm , but its consistant with the gauge,
Maybe you have an earth issue not uncommon on Patrols

OK this comment has got me thinking.
Tonight i noticed my Rev gauge is jumping around a bit.
Does a bad earth affect that?
I thought the earthing issue was solved a few models back.
Perhaps I have a problem.
Think its time i fitted a better earthing strap.

well, I have the old Autron ones - that are now the Redarc ones
3 x triple gauges
been in for 3 years, never had a problem with them

alarms go off when they reach the set reading
Water, Oil, EGT's, Boost, Batt 1, Batt 2, Amps, and Air Temp

if you are wanting quality, yes it costs
but
as I said, I have never had a problem with mine

my GQ, I had an earth strap off each battery to a separate place on the chassis, I had one from the Gearbox to the chassis, and another from the Motor to the Chassis

never had an earth problem with her

my GU - I only have separate earth straps of both batteries

they are separate from the factory loom

@ BigCol you may find there are earth straps for different section of the patrol
Battery to motor, motor to chassis, chassis to engine bay, then cabin section
then to the body, cargo area and so on
Can never have too many earths I reckon.
