View Full Version : 1969 hk ute project

Ok ... So for god knows what reason Brad felt the need to spend all his spare time in the shed for the next few months (hahaha maybe years)

He picked up a HK Ute which he plans to completely strip, cut rust out etc and rebuild - once he started cutting he then decided a cheap way to get some of the parts he wanted was to buy a flipping HK Sedan [emoji15][emoji15][emoji13][emoji13][emoji13][emoji13][emoji13]

Here's a few pictures of the old girls - he'll be stripping the sedan to use parts on the ute and then "maybe" (over my dead body LOL) will look at rebuilding the sedan .....

Gonna be a VERY LONG process but keeps him off the streets and reckon she's gonna look smick when finished

Interesting. My first ever car was 186 HK wagon. I think it was 1967. Would that be right? I'll be following this thread closely. Cheers... I might try a dig up a photo or two.

I "believe" and don't quote me because I'm no expert ... The HK was released in Jan 68' and replaced with the HT in May 69'

We did a chassis number check on the ute when Brad first bought it and can't remember all the details but she was actually built up here in the Brisbane factory and was originally white with this seriously weird blue combination interior (dash is a darker blue to the seats/trim etc)

At this point the plan is to paint her her a gunmetal glittery grey (just gotta find the shade he likes - Mazda, Honda and even Jeep have 3 very similar but different colours he likes) with a Predominately red interior (splash of white)

Also considering lining the floor of the ute tub with wooden panels but that plan may have changed with the colour change (was going to go back to white and blue)

Time will tell if she ends up more classic looking or abit trendier

He did up an old falcon sedan quite a few years ago and she ended up purple with white interior - sounds gross but I've seen it (sold it to a mate) and it flipping gorgeous

This site is good for looking up what year Holden models came out.

Look forward to seeing the progress on here.

I thought that the k was 68, t was 69 and g was 1970. The hr & HD were 66 and 67.
Anyway nice little project.
Mate had eh with white interior, white roof, white engine bay and the body and engine were cool mint green, looked tops and a blue bottle in the boot.

HD then HR
I brought a HG ute years ago for $50 5 cyclinder spewing oil every where .
replaced one guard and sold it for $150.
Also had a 68 falcon ute disc brake front end very rare, column auto ,put a fairmont interior in it.
bucket seats and dash, from a mint donor sedan and I mean mint $100
Plan was to put a 302 and paint it polar white with a red stripe, sorta GT ish.
Never got around to it

Good to see an old Holden HK. I owned a 1969 HT Kingswood sedan with a 186 and Powerglide Auto in it. I was told it had a Premier interior from the factory. I don`t know how true that was, but it had bucket seats and the interior was in the bsb colour. There is two versions of the powerglide auto, one for the 6 cylinder and another for the V8 being stronger built. A bit of difference in the first gear ratio apparently too.

Oh, you poor, poor girl..................... I have lived this for many years. The cars breed, the excuses varied. DO NOT let him bring it in the house.......

But, seriously I hope it comes up well. I'm not a Holden person, but those old girls are kinda sweet. Have fun.

[emoji13][emoji13] thanks lovely!!! Breeding has already commenced with the sedan showing up "but babe, was cheaper to buy whole car than it was for the parts I need that I can strip off it" [emoji13][emoji13]

It's all good - frees time for me to things I want and have seen the Falcon he did so know at least he does know what he's doing (kinda sorta) - oh and we're FORD over HOLDEN any day of the week ourselves but the old girls have something about them ....

Imagine the stories these (or any) old car could tell you [emoji108]🏼 just so long as they don't turn into a "Christine" [emoji15][emoji15]

I'll have to go and redo the search in her chassis number - was actually fun trying to find out where she was built, exact colour etc etc etc

Guess I may as well search the sedan whilst I'm at it

A fact from my Holden loving Hubby ( he collects '60-62 holdens). The HK ute was the only ute that has 'HOLDEN' stamped into the tailgate. If you dont have one, expect to sell your house to buy one, IF you can find one.
Oh, and he has a disc brake front end for the HK if your interested. ( hard to find too.)

Thanks for that Kat, know where to come for info now as he moves forward - right now he's just trying to get all the rust cut out and the body repaired - front end has been completely pulled off [emoji15] looks like massive pile of scrap metal to me but apparently I have no vision [emoji13][emoji13][emoji13]

Just checked with Brad and he said the ute does have HOLDEN stamped in the tailgate [emoji108]🏼 and both the ute & the sedan he bought have front disc brakes ..... SCORED !!! [emoji122]🏻[emoji122]🏻

I learnt in brand new 80's model Toyota Corolla's ...... My father was a car carrier from Melbourne to Brisbane so by the age of 13 both my brother and I could load and unload a car park on our own LOL

When I eventually got my learners licence I drive either my boyfriends black, 253 HQ sedan :) he also had a black 308 wagon (not sure what model it was - have a pic somewhere - will find and post but it was around the same age) [emoji13][emoji13] maybe a model or 2 newer ???

He can probably strip the bits he needs and on-sell it and get his $150 back.

Would you believe the $150 donor car is the EXACT same colour as the original was !! Inside & Out and has the Holden stamp in tailgate although Brad not sure he can save it (is gonna try of course) this one was built in Sydney factory in the same year - apparently the "parts" he's saved off her would've cost more than $150'and the rest will be going to junk yard when he's finished !! (Mark my words [emoji23][emoji23] )

So we now the proud owner of 3 bloody HK's .... Such that they are

Not the HK .... BUT ... This is the XY GT Replica Brad rebuilt several years ago - she was purple with white leather interior ..... His ex wife made him sell it but she went to one of his good mates who only lives 500mtrs down the road LOL Lloyd repainted her in a more traditional colour .... This was Brad today driving his daughter to her formal .... And for those who know us and remember Talia there's a pic of her & Brad as well ..

This is to be honest I'm not sure but either a HT or HG wagon that a couple of mates and I picked up for $500 and drove it over to Perth then headed north as far as Coral Bay in about 1989. Great trip. Motor blew up and had another on put in at Denham.

Brought a 5 cyclynder HT ute for $50 with reg back in the day, sold it for $100
running on 6 lol, That was a Belmont povety pack only speedo and fuel gauge thats about it
oh and the oil light
My favourite ute was a coloumn auto, disc brake front end 68 XT ford .250 pursuit motor
It was an ex Dunlop tyre service ute, went all over vic in that one. Rare in that configuration
It had dual battery set up the lot lol
REAL CARS HAVE 1/4 VENT WINDOWS imo

Years ago my mate traded his EK sedan with Impala floor
shift on a brand new Vermillion fire [orange] GT falcon with track wheels.
Top speed 146 mph, went every where in it Bathurst to hang shite on the pink Toranas
even went to perth in it, unreal car
