And another tough one for Wales next week against the Boks

I fancied either an Aus or RSA victory in this world cup. Now that they avoid each other in the quarters, I ain`t changing my mind.
Clunk, on a serious note, you have to admire Wales, with the injuries they sustained before and during the tournament, they have been remarkable.
I don`t know why every one was surprised by England not getting out of that group, Wales and Aus were always better teams. I think we are more of a WIP at the moment. Blaming Sam for all our faults is just ridiculous, last time I watched union it was a 15 man sport with subs and a whole coaching set up.

Hmmmm..........Ireland eh? Could be a good shout that, still think RSA will get there. Getting beat by Japan seems to have kicked them in the stones. Must say that the Aus defence whilst down to 13 yesterday was probably the best defensive 10 minutes of Rugby union that I have seen. Painful as this is, Australia were simply superb..................God it hurts typing that..........;)

hey mate, they have come along way, and went through the hard slogs of retiring all the golden oldies, and bringing and training all the up and comers through the ranks... now they have a world class team, something which RSA and the all blacks have yet to bite the bullet and do!

See, I disagree with that. What does it matter were they play, the guy is Australian, he should play for Australia.
We are in the same boat with Delon Armitage, best player in Europe, yet RFU won`t pick him, bloody silly in my opinion.

because it encourages a culture of mercenaries, sure those blokes are just plying their trade and they only have a limited time to make as much $$ as they can, but at the same time, rugby for me isnt about picking the strongest team no matter what, its about a privilege that people who are true to that country should only get. im not explaining myself very well, but what im trying to say is if you moved to another country, lets say Australia, just because you were born in the UK does that mean you would call yourself a pom? or would you call yourself an Australian? does that make sense?
leave the merc work for soccer, those players have no loyalty, and are only interested in who is the highest bidder

FNQGU

I reckon Wales are going to give Seth Efrica a real shock coming up, but they will have to sort their scrum and some of their attacking play if they are to win. I also agree with Irish re those negative plays while defending. Not great form that, but they played it deliberately.
The Cuzzy Bro's shuld do in the Frogs, but that one also is an unknown. Either way, the losers of both games will be big name teams and all have a lot to prove.
Unfortunately due to the draw I don't think it can be an Ireland v Aus final, as they would meet in the Semi.
Wales is a team I just can't help but like, ever since they played their hearts out when Warburton got sent off last time in the WC. Would love to see a Wales v Aus Final but they will have to beat Sth Africa and NZ to do it.
Don't think I'll be getting much sleep next weekend...

What a sad game. Although the abs outmatched the frogs there were some serious inconsistencies with the ref calls. The Black's were consistently outside and yet rarely pinged for it.
I liked the Wales game tho, both teams played with real heart.
nz v sa will be an interesting match!

The French were all over the place like a mad woman's sh..t. Yeah, I agree, some Ref calls were inconsistent, but really, they never changed the outcome of that game. Disappointing, but the AB's were big, strong and fast and tactically played all over the Frogs.
The Wales v SA game was a good strong game of Rugby, with both sides making errors that could have cost them. In the end, SA made less errors and their Forwards were better, which was what set them up for that winning try, and their decision making was better. I was surprised that Wales left it so open on the blindside, but a great decision by the SA skipper to go for the corner. Warburton must have just not seen it. The best team won there too.
Yep, can't wait to watch SA v NZ. I don't reckon SA will let NZ run around them like the French did, and they will definitely contest those kicks that the French kept losing.
Another late one tonight coming up too!

Ha-ha yep, I managed to get about 5 hours broken sleep so kinda tired. at least the games aren't too late, 1030 and 130. Def agree that sa will contest a lot more of the game, especially in the air and lineouts where the french were lacking.
Ha-ha for a moment there did u think the old french were back with an eye gouge on McCaw? I thought it was for a sec till I saw the punch ha-ha.

You guys got out of jail against Scotland. Bad enough that Joubert missed that awful late hit on the Scottish full back, but how on earth was that a penalty?
Even worse was the ref running off the pitch at the end. That was pitiful.
But onwards and upwards, Aus will have to improve on that performance to progress.
I know decisions go both ways, but the end of the game was a shocker for Joubert.

Yeah mate agree that that ref call was abit questionable but there were so many calls through the night against both teams that were questionable. It's his call at the end of the day, we all just have to live with it.

I think the fact that that penalty was right at the end of the game is why it has attracted such a focus and vehement reactions. No one seems to be talking about all the shit calls that went against the Aussie scrum earlier on, or that very dubious knock-on in the scrum against Genia. Yes, the Scots are understandably not happy, but one ref's call was not the deciding factor in that game and I think it is piss weak that World Rugby threw Joubert under the bus for that one call. Nick Phipps didn't 'intentionally' play the ball anyway, so whose to say that the call was not correct and the video ref would not have agreed?
No one is saying that ALL of the other penalties given during the game were all correct. It was 5 tries to 2 and despite all the mistakes, at the end of the day I personally think the better team won. But maybe I am seeing things through my Wallaby eyes...
Joubert has never been a Wallabies fan either, so it comes down to a human error, if it was one, and that is part of the game.
What's the saying - 'Swings and Roundabouts'?

agree with everything else you said, especially the unfair scrum penalties. i REALLY REALLY agree with this though, 5 tries to 2, and the scots didnt even earn those tries we handed them to them...an intercept and a charge down are valid tries but all the same they were really just freebies.

A good game, not a great game. But it did show that Aus will be real contenders against the AB's. Folau was not in the hunt, and neither was Genia. In fact Genia hasn't had a good game all tournament. Great to have Pocock and Hooper firing together again though. They really played well. Foley needs to go back to the practice nets...or church.
It looked to me though that the ref let his bias against Australia shine through for all to see. Can't believe some of those penalties against us, and then not against the Argies for blatant transgressions. Felt like we were being punished for the last game results... Bring back Joubert!
Anyway, it seems that the best two teams are in the final, nuf whinging from me...

It should be an EPIC matchup! The two best teams currently in World Rugby playing for the biggest prize. Can't wait. BBQ in the evening, then hitting the town to find the big screens and crowds. Should be a big night.
Did anyone manage to watch the Boks play the Argies? Heard the result, but I missed it unfortunately. Must be hard for teams to step up to play for 3rd and still put in their best.

watched the first half nothing to right home about,
it was more about the retiring players as SA had it won by half time

Don't mean to sound like a sore loser, but that was some disgraceful refereeing. The better team did win, but it was pretty hard to keep having to try and come back from one BS call after another too.
Anyway, as Gregan once said... "Another four years..."

Fantastic game and I really thought the Aussies were going to do it in the second half. Man did they get on a roll. But NZ held firm and deserved the win. Scoreline flattered them a bit, but they deserved the win.
Watched all the game and thought the ref was pretty good to be honest.

yeah I agree, the ref was pretty good IMO, even though Im biased. I thought he did let a few things slip, but that went both ways
