View Full Version : Quick question in middle of installing boost gauge

When I install the boost gauge, diagram has it coming from outlet on IC then T's going to sensor and the boost regulator. When I put it too boost regulator, do I inline it, in the hose that's already going there ? Or straight into the regulator.

I'm half way through, and don't want to install it wrong, and have something POP on me. Cheers

And if it's straight to it, what happens with the the black hose with filter on ??

doesnt that one with the filter come from the vacume pump and to the bottom of the Dawes valve??
Its a one way valve not a filter is that right??
Dont forget to loop off the air solenoid and return air lines

I'm not putting the Dawes in just now.
It's the Boost gauge only. In diagram it says tubing from surge tank ( which is outlet on Intercooler) into a T then off to the Sender Unit (with inline filter supplied) then to the Turbo Regulator.
Now the regulator already has a hose, so do I inline the Boost Gauge, or bypass it for now, until I put the Dawes in? And if I do bypass it, is that when I loop off the Air Solinoid ???

From the out pipe in the intercooler. Looking firm front of engine top front most pipe

Right pipe but that is all thats needed for a guage . No tee required. You have put that fitting on that pipe in a prick of a spot by the looks. Get an elbow for it then it won't rub.

Thanks boots. Then why do these instructions have it going to the Boot Pressure regulator ???

I have just modified it. I didn't won't it right on the bend, as I never plumb into bends.
Mind you, when I marked it out, it was further from the pipe. I'm going to run some thicker Exhaust pipe from it. That clear stuff that come with the gauge, feels like jelly after just running down the road.

Thanks again mate

Yeah not seen anything like that instruction before. What brand guage have you got

It's a RaceTech Gauge.

I hooked it up the way you said and all good now.

Mind you I will be looking to put the Dawes and Needle in soon, because I just maxed out at 22PSI going up at hill. Sits on just under 15PSI cruising 110-120klm @2400rpm . . . Is 22 something to worry about ???

Mine is max 17 cause it limp modes at 18 . mudski had his set in the 20 zone but he was running bigger air inlet from memory. Some ecu,s are more twitchy than others . For a stock rock I reckon 22 a bit high jmo. When you get your dawes valve then tweek away .

Hang on. Wheres the other end of that T going too?. If you have no Dawes there should be no T. Just straight from the front ic pipe and to the gauge.
Your ic is leaking too mate. This needs tobe fixed before you fit the dawes.

Thanks for the link TD

So if I take the IC off, I should be able to see the cracks then ?? Might be easier to buy a new IC ... ....... This is all new to me. I will get there :)

Most test by using a bike pump and a kiddies pool of water, looking at yours it will be leaking
I think they come from the factory with leaks.ha ha
Give it a test to confirm what we suspect, make sure its dry before you re-install it.
good luck

If you are getting a new I/C, get a fully welded one. I have this one but there are many others a various prices with more flow etc.

Also when looking some are pressure tested as well.
so look for that

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but since the subject of intercooler a came up, can anyone point me to a good replacement intercooler for the RD2.8T? I think the IC for a 4.2 will fit it. I need a cheaper replacement that will ship overseas to my location.

Get yours welded up mate. Any radiator repair mob could do it.
And to the OP. Take that T out. You will root the vacuum diaphragm on the turbo if you dont.
