I think if we didn't have the dog I might be able to convince her
We used to bring Diesel's crate with us camping but it was huge and a pain in the ass, last trip we just let him sleep in the back seat of the Patrol with the windows cracked open and he seemed to love it.

Mine normally sleeps in the tent with us. But in the swag id either just put him under the awning in a bed next to the swag or in the back of the car ( The ms worries he will sook without us being near him)

Maybe try it out one time when you are able to put him next to you if he does sook... I thought Diesel might sook a bit too but he was fine

I've never been to this camp spot, is there a contingency plan in case the main spot is taken or do we just camp off to the side and suck it up?

Yeah good point thinking about a contingency. . .Was thinking the same. There are other spots along that road i guess, wouldn't be too hard to find most are pretty visible along the road. . .

Is that the one before the golf club?
It's going to be a bit hectic on the lead up to this.
I finish work at 7am on Friday morning. On the way home I'll do my food/drink shopping and get some sleep. Load up in the afternoon and be ready to leave as I'm out Friday night for dinner for the old man's birthday. Hopefully get home about midnight top up on sleep and be on the road by 4.
Looking forward to this trip.....

The camp will take 100 cars mate. It's huge and flat as a tack. It's far enough the other side not to get much traffic so I doubt you will have any problems. We camped there on a long weekend last time and had a group of hunters across the way and no other campers the entire time.
There is a drop toilet and the river is close.

No it's actually an Irish Celtic festival.
Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced “sah-win”).
The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture. Samhain was a time used by the ancient pagans to take stock of supplies and prepare for winter. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops.
The festival would frequently involve bonfires. It is believed that the fires attracted insects to the area which attracted bats to the area. These are additional attributes of the history of Halloween.
Masks and costumes were worn in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or appease them.
Trick-or-treating, is an activity for children on or around Halloween in which they proceed from house to house in costumes, asking for treats such as confectionery with the question, “Trick or treat?” The “trick” part of “trick or treat” is a threat to play a trick on the homeowner or his property if no treat is given. Trick-or-treating is one of the main traditions of Halloween. It has become socially expected that if one lives in a neighborhood with children one should purchase treats in preparation for trick-or-treaters.

Rusty nail you're coming down 'the proper rd ' that sorts the men from the boys , I've driven it for years in trucks & love it , when the Hume was closed a few years ago all the 'big timers' were comin down there to get to Melbourne, whinging about how windy it is , how narrow it is etc , us regulars were passing them & disappearing into the night - get them off the dual lane concrete & theyre stuffed 😝🚚💨💨💨

Damn Winnie!!!! That sux!!!
I remember the first national meetup of the forum at Lovedat in SA. Drove for 10 hours towing the camper. Arrived at 9pm in the dark. (Not like me at all). Setting up the camper, not even cracked my first beer yet. I jumped off the front box of the camper and heavily sprained my ankle and I was done! The boys finished setting up the camper for me and Danny took me to emergency for X-rays. I spent a week on Crutches and never drove a single track at Loveday!!! I still blame AB to this day.

Grab some grey duct tape, now tape under your heel and up the ankle past the pivot, then tape around the ankle
as close to the pivot as possible, that should relieve and pain but not sure how you'd go with the clutch.
Weather update just steady rain here ATM

but rules are rules,
TBH I like it as I can go 4x4ing and [285s] and not have to worry

Another successful meet up with some new faces too which was great to see.
Weather broke up a bit near the end of the trip but still humid so swimming and undies all round!
What was a bit disappointing was the rude police targeting 4wders. Pretty much every single person in the entire region was pulled over and roadworthy check.
Apart from that the camp spot was great Winnie, shame you couldn't be there!
We made a big cook up with 250 chicken skewers with all types of spice concoctions!

Just got back- great trip all in all with a few mishaps and dramas, but that all adds to the adventure really!!
Firstly I am happy to take full responsibility for completely stuffing up and navigating successfully to Collins Hut as opposed to Collins Flat- Whoops!! After heading down a reasonable 4WD track with campers in tow (AB and Marks) we reached the camping area which was pretty small, covered with thistles and no toilet. We were pretty much about to set up when it didn't quite feel right so AB and I checked the map and yep . . . O Dear. Ha Ha, it was at this point that I noticed the brake pedal slowly sink and a split had developed in the hose so we slowly headed off to Colins Flat via Dargo.
After calling Winnie he had his old brake lines which he was going to pack and bring up- sweet!Nicko told us about his ankle in the mornig. (Bugger) Anyway many many thanks Winnie and Amy for coming up to Dargo to drop them off- pretty quick fix after that, and spewing you guys missed out.
Didn't get much driving in but headed down to Crooked river which was great I'll put some photos up later. Bit of a downer with the cops but Mudski and I dodged a bullet, they went past but must of been going on home shift.
Thanks too all, special thanks to Jeremy for the tunes Mark and Lou for the Chinese style chicken skewers and nibbles and Sprock and Daniel for heading out for the first time, definatly hope to see you again.

Pretty much we stopped at the bottom and you coukd see the how steep it was from the bottom. Then about half way up it turned to a few rocky steps which needed your attention to navigate. At the top though, the view was bloody awesome.

Winnie,
Billy Goats was pretty tame ... we did this on Tuesday afternoon on our way out. The lower half below the helipad was just a track ... obviously the grader work is holding together well cause it was easy as. It was a little more interesting at the top, but still fairly easy.
Most of the tracks were in great condition, of which although we don't like the road closures, they obviously have great affect.
Lots of nuffty's out there too though, with tyres at road pressures and no idea what they were doing - with slick tracks in spots due to the rain. We saved one crew from recovering a stuck vehicle ( which probably wouldn't have been stuck at all if they had decreased their tyre pressures a little ) off a trailer chain shackle ...... no wonder people get killed ....

Nah thats not it John. Randalls is pretty steep and very rocky in sections... And the hill has pretty much zero tree's, or very little of them. So you can see where your gonna land... Lol

We were discussing this over a few brews at camp. My impression was that you can't get 35's engied... But AB was sure he saw a 4wd TV episode that Simon Christie had his 35's on his Tojo engied. So AB. Can you email ya mate and ask him please. Pretty please. Nothing better than to shove one in the nose of the plods for something thats really uncalled for in my opinion. Unlike that shorty we seen on the way out nearly on two wheels taking a corner. Lol.

Pretty sure Double Black Off Road engineered a Jeep on 37's a month or two ago. Not the same vehicle, but I'd have thought a Patrol on 35's would be a hell of a lot more stable than a Jeep on 37's.

I'm sure you can engineer anything, providing you have a thick enough wallet to back you up. Simon and D Black offroad would have that capability, as well as mates in the industry.
For an average Joe , I'm sure it would be A lot of $$$$.

Me too.. I did western tk in Bunyip earlier this year, for those of you that know it it can be difficult at times. I crawled up at 13psi in my 35's, didn't spin the wheels once.
Mate on 33's had to hit it with a lot of speed, foot to the floor on his 33's, and didn't even make it halfway. More damage to truck and track.

Yeah 35s give that slightly larger foot print which makes a massive difference on rocky sections.

He basically said its a big no no especially in the High country,
and if you want to run engineered 35s on your patrol to do plenty of research.
Simon never had engineered 35s on any of his Patrols

Thanks John. But I'd love to know what plenty of research is needed to be done though. I found a list of all the VASS approved engineers. I might have to do the ring around....
