Hey all going to upgrades the tyres on mu GU soon going up from 265/70/16 to 285/75/16 . By my calculations thats an increase of 56mm . As thats 6mm more than the allowable 50mm do you think i will run into any problems, im think more from the angle of an insurae issue if i have a claim not really the police. I know its gettig a bit picky but who knows with insurance companies. Your thoughts ?

It is the most common increase. I would not hesitate.

No problems thats an allowed size, most here would run 285-75-16 I do plus run 305s x 16 for off road work.
If your Patrol looks like a skate board with huge tyres expect to be pulled over.
285 is a 33" in the old money 265s are 32" I think, You will notice your fuel figures will differ with the bigger tyres
and braking ,you may find is harder too. Its a big wheel to stop rolling.
IMHO I think you will be fine,

Yep lots of folk run 285s, but for total peace of mind you could ask your insurance company (without quoting the oversize bit, just the tyre size). As you say insurance companies always look for a way out of their obligations when push comes to shove. I reckon you’d be ok but the fact that ‘lots of people do it’ means little if the insurance company says no.
Imagine the scenario where you run into someone & the insurance company claims the reason was that your braking was compromised by virtue of larger wheels.

So too put 33" on the Patrol, is that a standard 2" lift, or should you go 3" ?? Or a 2" Suspension lift and 1" body ??
Cheers

What brand are the springs and shocks, what is the parts cost and what is the labour cost?
Seems a bit steep for just a 2" lift.

Look elsewhere! $1000 for springs and shocks is about right for a good quality Named Brand like Old man Emu. They are taking the piss for their own brand unnamed gear.

I've had WestCoast Suspension on mine for the last 5 years with no issues what so ever, there's also quite a few from my club who have also used them with no issues, they're pretty well known in WA.......... but I'm about to change over to King springs and Terrain tamer TGS series shocks...... all for less than $900 and will be fitting them myself when I get time.

They are Jenkins springs and shocks - manufactured by WCS. Lots of mining 4bys and trucks there when I went in.

Why change something f they have been good for 5yrs ?? Wher are you sourcing the Kings & Terrain tamer TGS from ?? I have a local Pedders guy here, but not paying him 3K. I'll pay him labour if I can source Springs, shocks and dampener myself.

Because after 5 years of being on the car and having a hard life they are now flogged out and need replacing......... so now I'm trying something else. King Springs are around $340 a set from ebay and the shocks I got from Don Kyatt Spare parts in Kewdale WA.

If you shop around, you should be able to get tough dog, dobbins ons, lovells, king springs, etc for $900-1000, and ome for $1100.
As for labour, to fit a 2" lift, $450 is a rip off. I can fit a 2" lift in my driveway, by myself, with limited tools, in 1-2 hours, depending on how cold the beer is and how tight the bolts are.
If you were around I'd happily give you a hand to fit it, but I think I'm a little far away sorry.
Cheers!

Thank for the offer mate. I'm very limited in my tools (long story but someone wanted them more than me) But will have a look around and see how it is done.
I'm actually looking around now, once I saw Clunk and his under $900 prices. Will look more into it. Got $ burning the pocket, so I want it done yesterday haha

The rears can be done with just a 19mm spanner if you know how. For the front you just need a set of spanners, and a couple decent car stands and a jack.
Honestly, if you have some mechanical ability, spend the money you saved on labour on replacement tools, because $450 is a rip off.

Yes, I will do just that I think. I found a Tough Dog 3" HD Lift for $1019, or a 2" for a little less, but I will look at doing it myself. I'm need of some new tools .. . :)

Plenty of info on 2" lifts around, but feel free to pm me if you run into any dramas. Have done lifts in 14 patrols now.
