Hi all,

Just had a training day with the 4wd central coast club and noticed on two occasions going down steep hills the 4.5l Patrol would stall as I leveled off after a steep descent. It behaved as if if were a manual stopped in gears. Read somewhere that "the gu does not fully lock the clutch in the converter when in low range 1st". Would that be the source of the problem ? Or is there a different problem I might be facing? Note that I have recently changed the transmission oil & filter.

Any advice highly appreciated.

Cheers,
S.

What he said ^^^^

Will more likely be a fuel issue than the tranny

Unless i am mistaken, the gu (gq as well maybe idk) auto won't lock up in first full stop.

Possibly try a hill in 2nd low and see what happens.

Could be fuel related also. I haven't ever stalled my auto.

Pretty sure the auto in most Cars doesn't lock in 1st or 2nd regardless of range unless fitted with some sorta converter lock up overide.
So unless you've got something fitted that your unaware of??

If when the motor stalls and the car comes to shuddering stop, your trans has big problems. If when the motor stalls and the car rolls to a stop, I'm betting you have LPG and it just needs a good tune.
