Here is some pics of my fresh motor. It was supposed to go in this weekend but I have been working interstate and just got back. It's fully balaced, the rotating assembly is balanced to 0.01g and the pistons and rods etc are individually balanced to 0.0002g. It has ceramic coated genuine UD pistons and turbo oil pump.

61455

61456

Sticking with the garrett for now. I want to see what the engine mods can do for it.
61457

The flywheel has been lightened in an effort to move the deadly harmonics that contribute to crank failure out of the useable rev range.

61458

The exhaust manifold, turbine housing, v-band flange are ceramic coated. The manifold, turbine housing and wastegate port have been ported

61459

61460

The head has oversize valves with a 4 angle grind, ceramic coated pre combustion chambers inside and out, the face of the valves and combustion face is ceramic coated as well as the entire exhaust valve and exhaust runner and the intake runners have been cleaned up and polished

Dunno, the end power figure is going to determined by how much torque it produces, so it may very well stay at 180ish rwkw like is was before.

Once the clutch wears out and I get a fully hectic one. I will really screw some fat into it for a brag run

Lightening the fly wheel will give you more HP than Torque wouldnt it?

seems a shame to get it dirty, well done on the balance great tolerances
well thought out modifications too

Flywheels dont make horsepower or torque the engine does.

So you should be with all the work that has been done to it. Good on you!
Do you know of many other TDs that have had this sort of work put into them?

Ben-e-boy
6th October 2015, 12:58 AM
Yeah there are heaps that are balanced, oversize valves etc coated piston, not heaps with the ceramic on the head, but I got the idea from one of nissannewby's mates, nothing I have done is new and innovative.

Wow Ben. I was very impressed at the Neerum Creek meet up let alone the day I had a drive several years ago so you could have a listen to the truck out at Beerburrum. You need something else to spend your money on dude. Age is creeping up lol.

In a nutshell. Lots. I don't think Ben could probably put a figure on it. He might though. A lot of the work done, Ben has done himself plus, I think the cost of the experienced people doing the work would be priceless.

Cheers. I was just wondering what it would cost those people without the skills, experience or friends to get this type of setup as well.

Yeah mate. Fecking lots. To do what ben has done takes time and skill. Which costs a bomb. FWIW. I did a total engine rebuilt on a TD42t, new pump, turbo, intercooler, new head, mild head work, everything to convert a ZD to a TD. And not even close to what Ben has done and it was around 20k. give or take. I dare say Ben spent less, but he knows what he's doing, and has friends around him who also know, so this all helps. Doing something to the level at what Ben has done, its not just what you know, its who you know.

Ben-e-boy . Some progress after Bens rebuild failed. Another TD is getting ready to go in. Have done some lightening to his flywheel. Lightest one I have done to date. Got it down to 11.9kg.752997530075301

Got an import T motor. Mat's old turbo. No new internals , my good cylinder head. I'm not going through the rebuild process again as I have no trust in others to do it right and this time it will Actually be my fault if it fails. Just boost till it blows.

Yep fair call mate. Which old turbo of Matts, the larger BW?

Yep. After seeing what it did on a stock motor v the 18g, knowing it'll be better than the Garrett, knowing what I achieved with the Garrett (seat of pants feel as it failed before I found out on paper) which IMO I credit to the cylinder head for a bit of that improvement.
I think it'll suit what I like

Yeah sweet I remember Matty saying it was awesome back before we tried the 6758 but mentioned slight lag but crazy when spooling so very keen to see what you boys do with it mate!!!
