Hey Folks,

How ya'll doing tonight? I'm 88Safari and as my name and title suggest. I'm a first time patrol owner and I bought a 1988 Safari granroad yesterday.
I went and picked it up today, I tell you the 08 3.0TD hilux was not impressed towing the old beast. Luckily for me the toyota is a company car, I think it's safe to say it was safely pushed to it's limits today.

The safari has 200k on the clock and an issue with the clutch at the moment. After about 10 minutes it stops going into gear, it will stay in a selected gear but it is hard to get into neutral or another gear.
It works fine before 10/15 minutes, some times you will have to pump the clutch to get it into first. I think the syncro's might be a bit worn in first also making it a bit harder.
I took it for a spin and the breaks don't feel like powered breaks so I'm thinking it could just be an airleak in the system somewhere.
(from the short amount of searches, looks like a vacuum leak from a pump behind the alternator?)

I'll have to get a roadworthy done on it also in the next couple of weeks(Morayfield if anyone can recommend a place), It does have some body rust which I hope it doesn't affect the roadworthy, but this was the best chassis I have seen.
I looked at about 6 donks before I decided to take this one. I'll post up some pictures and start a more detailed thread sometime during the week when I have some free time, just thought I would say Hi first.

Thanks for looking,
88

Hey 88safari! How's it going?

We recently purchased a 92 Safari. It won't start at all, at this time. I helped my partner push it onto a car wagon in order to take it over to his mechanic's shop for them to fix it. We purch'd it from a car dealer, and they said they'd had it running for awhile, but it doesn't now. I, Norma, am not particularly mechanically inclined, and my partner, Doug, is a long-haul truck driver, so I'm the one doing research on how to get a service manual to fix it. Currently doing my posts in order to gain access to the free download of the manual.

If I remember correctly, the fuel injector had been detached when we first looked under the hood. Doug liked the steel bumpers on the vehicle - a major reason why he stopped and looked at it. My child (23yr old) thinks he's a fool to purchase a vehicle that doesn't run, let alone not safetied. Hopefully the manual will help.
