Hi everyone.

I'm Andrew from Sydney. I'm about to purchase an ex Telstra GU with service body, to use for work, I'm a heavy vechcile mechanic. Done a bit of research and they seem to be really good value around the 2008-2010 vintage with 100-200km on them. Also the service body is perfect for what I need. Seems to be a huge price differential, I seen one with 330km on gumtree this week with a noisey clutch for 11,500neg to ones that seem silly priced at well over $30,000 with close to 100,000km on them!

Anyway, I used your forum to help work out what I want, so thanks for that! Great that you can access without being a member.

I actually have a 1998 GU, ST, with the TB45 in it I brought as a project a couple of weeks ago with a blown head gasket. I've sorted that, but need to get the LPG sorted for rego, and I'm off to put a kit through the left hand front swivel housing, as its leaking. I'll be selling this once it's sorted.

If anyone else has an ex Telstra rig that they use for work I'd love to see a couple of photos of how they have the body set up.

Cheers

Hello and welcome if you intend to keep it and use it to do the "big lap" later on,
may I suggest you go look at the 4.2 TD models up to 06, its the pic of all motors
and take well to modification. In the meantime ask away and most of all enjoy

Agree that the 4.2 is a great engine, and I have heard mixed reviews on the 3.0, my issue is that as 2015 draws to a close, the newest 4.2 I could find would be almost 10 years old. The older 4.2s seem to command a premium over the 3.0, even though they are an older vehicle.

I got a mate whos got one. Hes an electrician so the original setup on it worked out perfect for him. Has been a reliable rig for him - is the 3.0 and i think about 250ks on it and still going strong.
