Hi all
From 1st July this year, you have to nominate which camping area on the beach you want to stay at. Previously you only had to nominate if you were staying at Dundubara, Waddy top or bottom camp grounds but not any beach area.
A ranger who does not want to be identified said it was to control numbers as there are about 500,000 visitors to the island each year.
Hopefully this will help remove the grubs who camp there and just leave rubbish and even elaborate dunnies they take up there for someone else to remove. It is not just the backpackers as it is worse north of Waddy where hire vehicles are not permitted.
You can now book 6 mths in advance instead of 3 mths.
Just back after a week over there-plenty of fish-(tailor, whiting, dart flathead and even mackerel from the beach) but not really big yet. Will go back early October for a couple of weeks to chase the big tailor.
