Thanks for the help Scotty, i didnt need the big socket you mentioned. I had to tap the bearing lock ring round with a screwdriver (not very hard) Is there a method to tightening the lock ring properly?

No worries mate - as said, didn't know if you'd have the large nut or the rings.
I use the circlip pliers to tighten them - they don't need to be overly tight, just firm.

I haven't seen that before.
The lock nut should be done up untill it just touches then a couple of degrees more to put a small amount of preload on the bearings.

A little bit of heat is nothing to worry about, Patrol wheel bearings are very robust.
Check these guages;

The second link is what I'm using. Very easy to fit and the thinner probe reacts very quickly to exhaust temperature changes.
I'm using a 30psi boost gauge, 15psi is not high enough for a ZD30.

Was having a look at those shields today - I figure I'll just cut the bottom half off and leave the air scoop (that's funnels air into the disc) attached ... I'm not overly plastered yet, so that decision is likely to change!!! LOL

Hahaha ... love those moments - the times when you are starting to fit the parts and the kids are asking why they call that particular part a "you f'ing b@stard"!!!! LMFAO
Good luck with it mate - you'll no doubt get plenty of help on here.

This is the thread; http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?3424-Stones-between-the-dust-cover-and-disc-rotars.&highlight=backing+plates
The general consensus, leave them on if you are a tourer, take them off or modify them if you like to go hardcore.
