Hey everyone,

so I have a suspect cracked head on 02 zd30 doesn't use coolant that I can tell, but bubbles into the surge tank when running and continues when shutdown the motor. I had the cooling system pressure checked and when stopped it held pressure and when running the pressure shot up (to what, I didn't ask)
She has also had a cold start issue for a while, has new glow plugs and full voltage on the glow bus bar, and just winds over for ages then starts with a black cloud of smoke, some times it starts and sounds like it's running on three cylenders even when hot and has no throttle response when doing this. My mechanic tells me that the starter motor sound crook also and that this can cause a crank angle sensor code and will cause hard starting issues.
Either she's going in this Monday to get fixed.
Has any one else heard of this before? Or would it be more likely to all be related to the head.
Cheers Walkz

Sounds like it could be air getting into the fuel system somehow too.
I've got that same issue and mine carries on a bit when started on cold too.
