Looking at a few GU Patrols - have around 10 grand to spend, to keep minister of finance happy it must be petrol and automatic!!!

Finding a few early (98-99) Gu of various trim levels including TI models in that bracket but also a couple of later (02 - 03) ST's in there as well,
Questions then -
Is the later model 4800 5 speed auto better value than the 4500 4 speed auto??
would a gas system fitted to either of these need to be Injection or older vapor styled?

Most of the use of the vehicle will be highway as we live 120klm out of nearest larger regional town and travel interstate every couple of months, so any help is appreciated

"10 grand to spend"
and
"minister of finance happy,"
cannot be used in the same sentence. ;)

The 4.8 is a newer, more powerful engine. For long highway drives you will find it nicer when going up hills, overtaking etc.

For the 4.5 a mixer gas setup should be fine.
On the 4.8, I would go injected. You loose more power when you go mixer on a 4.8.

Trim spec is up to you, but obviously, get the nicest you can.

Both engines will probably be similarly thirsty.

And buying one already on lpg is even better.

Cheers!

Oh yeah welcome to the forum!
