View Full Version : Injectors - rebuild or replace

The title pretty much says it all. The shop where I'm having some work done said that it sounds like a couple of the injectors are either really weak, or not working at all. Possibly even 1 or 2 cylinders aren't firing at all. Thus don't have the equipment to test compression and injectors and pump, so I'll be taking it to a diesel specialist in the next couple of days.

If my suspicions are confirmed and a couple of the injectors are toast, should I bother with a rebuild or just drop the extra cash and replace the lot? Over here they tend to lean more towards a rebuild but I want the best option for engine longevity.

EDIT: I have a RD28Ti in a 99 GU

If you can afford it I recon do them all. My belief is that if one or two are reaching the end of their life the others will follow in the next few months. The other thing is that if one of the tips comes off and falls into the cylinder, it aint pretty.

as 4bye said - easier to buy a set off Evilbay, get them shipped to you, and then just swap them over

I told someone once before about the ends of the injectors they are "usually" flat, with a pin like thingy coming through the middle that sprays the diesel out
once they get old, they tend to "burn" away around this pin and instead of a spray, you get a "dribble"

Would replacing the nozzle fix that wear or does the whole unit need to be replaced? The entire injector assembly is quite expensive but the nozzle and smaller parts are easy to find and replace and considerably cheaper.

Well it's all speculation at this point. Well see what the diesel shop says when I take it in next week. Had a quick look on eBay and all I could find were nozzle ends for the RD28Ti - no complete injector assemblies.

Does anyone know if the ebay injectors are good quality, or steer clear?.
Can you recommend a supplier ??.

sorry mate, I've not gotten any as yet.......

best you can do is check their feedback, and make your judgement from that

Just check the brand is all I can recommend. Some have the brand like Denso clearly listed, some don't. Find out if you can and then go on feedback.

My Patrol is a 4.2 GQ. I am in Perth.

I obtained replacement injectors from Highflo in NSW. Exchange basis. They sent me the rebuilt injectors and I returned my old ones to them. Paid a deposit at order which was refunded when I returned my injectors.

Car has done 30,000 k's since and no problems.

Company was easy to deal with.

No affilliations just a satisfied customer.
