Hey guys,
This noise has been going on for a while.
I can feel the noise on the pipe between the lock off valve and the LPG converter.

I'm wondering any of you guys have experienced this or
whether you can shed some light on it?!
Thank guys
Dom

what lock off valve are you talking about............??????

LPG lock-off solenoid valve. It's just before the converter from the tank. That curved LPG pipe goes to the lock-off valve(and filter) which is fitted to the side of the bonnet.

The noise goes away after the engine is warmed up for ten minutes or so.

is the bolt in the centre tight......?
like put a spanner on it and wont move tight........?

and

when its making that noise
have you put your hand on that solenoid to feel if it is making the noise?
or is it the pipe coming off it making the noise?

It is the pipe, the one between the lock off valve/solenoid/'filter and the converter(from the touch and feel) It's no more than a 6.-7 inches.
The feeling is from the pipe, rather than the valve or the converter.
But.....you know the noises are pretty tricky to localize sometime.
I was breaking everybody's balls last years about my diff noise(pinion bearing play), confirming it was from front end, when
as a matter of fact it was from the rear diff.
The noises travel along the paths and pretty good at leading to wrong location, unless you're experienced of course.
I do have a medical stethoscope(not the proper mechanics one).
I reckon I can use it tomorrow and see if I can find the exact location.

a long handled screwdriver, pointy bit to the engine, big bit in your ear
NOT the other way round

also try putting you hand
ON the pipe
On the Solenoid

sounded a little like a hole in your exhaust to me (but Im going deaf)

Thanx BigCol.
Yeah, that's my favourite technique to touch and feel it 'cos I'm not skilled enough to decode the noises.
Yes, there's a slight annoying leak in the exhaust, which I'm gonna fix for once, hopefully tomorrow onwards.
But, how can the LPG pipe, converter, lock-off valve make such noise as a reaction to an exhaust leak?!!
The old troll is not misfiring or backfiring atm, although when the exhaust leaks get worse, the performance as well as hiccups can get worse.
As far as the feel concerns, it is the PIPE. When I touch the lock-off valve or the converter, I don't feel it that strong.
But, again, I do acknowledge the feel also can be wrong. Bloody sounds waves have a strange way of travelling from place to place and where it decides to resonate with loud.

I'll do the screwdriver heartbeat technique and the stethoscope technique tomorrow.

But, I would love to hear from somebody who heard the same noise from the same location, 'cos I'm certain I can't be the only one.

Yes, the bolts are tight and they are not loose.

as it is the "feed" into your convertor, I would guess that it is the liquid moving through the pipe

it only happens when it is cold
makes me think that once the engine is warmed up & the engine bay - it is sufficiently warm enough for th liquid to flow easier

know what I mean??

Yeah, the symptoms lead to the converter, even though I don't feel the noise directly on the converter.

Seeing as there is a bit going one with your Patrol,
Take it somewhere and get a decent service. they will then point out
what needs attention

I think I can manage it with the help I've been getting here mate.
I know how to handle LPG without getting cooked.
If shite happens, it might as well be anything. :D
It's not catastrophic atm. But, I like the idea of fixing them before it gets to that point.
Converter needs rebuilding or replacement with a new one. Lock-off valve needs cleaning of the filter in it, or replacement.
I reckon, once I got those two done, the funny noise will go away.
If it doesn't, then I would have to follow your direction and take it to a pro.
Cheers
