29th March 2011, 08:22 PM
This might end up being a small little meet up but super keen to meet some more members and have a catch up at Toolangi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toolangi,_Victoria).

Date of meet up is the 4th of June!

The poll has started again now that we know dates so please poll again if you did last time with a yes or no.

CLICK HERE FOR MAPS AND DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO GET THERE! (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?3447-Vic-forum-meet-up-3-4th-June-Toolangi&p=76570&posted=1#post76570)

WE ARE CAMPING AT THE WATER GUAGE CAMPING SPOT....CLICK HERE ON DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO FIND THE EXACT CAMPING GROUND....VERY EASY TO FIND! (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?3447-Vic-forum-meet-up-3-4th-June-Toolangi&p=82259#post82259)

For the day trippers....We are leaving the camp for the day run at 9am and will be on UHF channel 18.

There is a great spot to camp on the Melba Hwy side of Toolangi which is easily accessible by basic 4wding, infact probably 2wd would get you to the camp site.

The west side of Toolangi can get full on with steep climbs and extreme muddy areas so fun for everyone.

Would love to get some more Victorians on this mission so let us know if your keen!
Random Toolangi shots...

The last Vic meet up was a blast....More extreme 4wders went on their way, touring and medium 4wders went that way and the senior blokes stayed at camp to catch fish and supply beautiful meals that night but didnt catch anything so it was can baked beans all round...lol...Whatever your skills are then come along for a fun weekend!

Yes mate a camper should be easy to get in there....In the next couple of weeks I'll do another trip out there to check on the best way in, etc and post it up.

I'm 99% sure you could even get a "SMART" car to the camp site...lol

Cheers mate, I think It's extremely easy to find though....Straight off the Melba Highway onto Two Hills Road and at the end of that road is Two Hills Camp Ground.

I wouldn't mind going out there to find other spots as that area has rabbit warrens everywhere for camping...lol

It will be for a weekend Pete, meet up Friday arvo/evening and leave on Sunday.

I wouldn't stress about bringing a stock car mate....I did a fair bit of Toolangi with all stock and it was fine...I was thinking about doing similar tracks as we did last time which was basic and then heading out later on to tackle the mud and Im sure people will just jump in other cars, etc if they don't want to take theirs.

There are chicken tracks on most of the hard stuff too but we can just do different conveys, etc....

Here is a good little basic climb on Wee Track which my stock GQ easily got with no worries....The Yoda in the vid did not but thats only because....It's a Toyota...lol

No probs at all mate, thats fine.

Yeah we're thinking late May...After Easter we'll work out exact dates.

It's only 15 minutes from my place so I'll shoot up soon and find a camping spot for us and post up directions.

There's a huge camping spot in the Murrindindi area which is next to a creek so I'll head out that way first.

Have just gotten off the phone to DSE at Toolangi.

I forgot that we need to pay to camp there. It's $7 per vehicle per night.

Theres a station bridge near the camp site and theres envelopes where you put the money in and write your rego on the envelope and the ranger comes around to collect the money.

If anyone has problem with this then let me know and we can find another camping spot.

It's a good spot along the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve....Huge camping areas, right next to the river, etc...

More info below...

http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/CA256F310024B628/0/E9424A2050BE857ACA25720B000BA3FC/$File/FS0010+-+Murrindindi+Scenic+Reserve+-+Camping+Guide.pdf

There is a free camp spot at the start of Toolangi but It's a small area and would be sharing it with others.

I also think the Murrindindi Reserve has other facilities

Typically campsites will offer basic pit
toilet facilities, picnic tables, fireplaces

Sir Roofy
5th April 2011, 04:28 PM
Which river is it on and are there any fish in it?

AB
5th April 2011, 04:42 PM
I will drive out there soon and throw a line in...It's the Murrindindi River that runs along side all of the camping areas.

The river near the camp site wouldn't be all that deep, might be a few holes here and there but a short drive should see it open up and get deep.

Bob, I don't think we can change polls...Ill have to look into that too.

AB
5th April 2011, 05:03 PM
Ok, started the poll again with a Yes or No answer.

Please vote again if you are attending or not....Cheers!

Next time anyway...

Don't worry, I'll shoot off from work early and bring the shotty...lol

So whereabouts did you go, at the Blackwood camping ground?

I havent been to that side in years, I normally go straight into the state park on the west side off Melba Hwy...

Is this where you were at?

Here are some maps for the location of the meet up and how to get there....

Roofy, please just double check that this is the right spot from when you visited.

The easiest way to find this place would be to look up the Wilhelmina Trout Farm at 10 Banbury Road, Murrindindi, vic. You can see the trout farm is pretty much on the corner of Banbury road and Pitmans Road.

Turn down Pitmans Road and take the left at the fork which runs into the camp spot.

Here is Google Maps link with Directions ---> http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Melbourne,+Victoria&daddr=Murrindindi+Scenic+Reserve+-+Suspension+Bridge+Camp+Spot+Off+Pitmans+Road+%40-37.38847,145.552368&geocode=FT0Ev_0dpPWjCCn3TbrStUbWajGQzYwhdVYEBA%3BF Up_xf0d8POsCA&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=-37.385742,145.55769&sspn=0.022574,0.0527&ie=UTF8&ll=-37.56744,145.47821&spn=0.680328,1.580658&z=10

Ok, I went out to Toolangi this afternoon to check out the best camping spots at the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve.

The best camp spot I found for us is called the Water Guage Camping Ground. This is located 3km down from the Suspension Bridge Camping Ground.

The Suspension Bridge camping ground is the first camping ground on the road. You cannot miss it. The photos below are the Suspension bridge. Don't forget to pay your camping fee. I think It's $5 per car.

This is very easy to find. Simply take the Murrindindi Road turn off from the main Melba Hwy.

Theres a huge green Vicroads sign saying "Murrindindi -->"....Can't miss it!

Then It's just straight the whole way for about 15km....Ends up being dirt road and shiploads of pot holes but It's an easy drive.....The road follows the powerlines....There may be a couple of small "t" intersections but just keep going straight and keep the following the "main" road.

There's orange signs directing you the whole way with each camping ground signed so It's very easy to find the camp spot...

Anyways, I had the road tyres on today and it was very slippery on some of the 4x4 tracks. The facilities here are pretty fancy for camping. After Black Saturday they rebuilt everything so even if there is rain we would be able to use a medium sized pergola with picnic tables, etc. Even the fire pits have rotating grills...lol

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum but i'd like to attend. What time is everyone expected to be there?

Good to hear mate your more then welcome.

Some people are heading up Thursday night, myself and a few others will be there around lunchtime Friday, most will be there around 7pm Friday night and I think one or two on Satuday.

Hope to see you there mate!

Watch this thread in the next two weeks and we'll choose a UHF channel for communication too, just incase.

Once your on that road you cannot miss the Waterguage camp spot....Big orange sign and the camp spot is only 20m off the road.

I have been getting a few PM's from other members who can't stay the whole weekend but want to come up on the Saturday for the day run.

Lets book in that we will be leaving the camp on the Saturday morning for the day run at 9am and for everyone else we will be on UHF channel 18.

If you get lost, need help or anything just try to get us on channel 18.....For everyone else, lets use channel 18 for all communication too.

Even if you can't make it by 9am you will still be able to find us on the tracks in the area. It's not hard to catch up to us during the day as Toolangi can easily be accessed anywhere on the smooth dirt roads going through the forest.

Pffftt nice one andy! Friday night + Monash fwy = Uh-oh!!! Have a miracle beer ready for me at 7,30!

One miracle beer coming up...LMAO...Yeah Monash is no good mate.

Eastern Fwy would be the quickest, then off at Ringwood down Maroondah Hwy to Lilydale, Yarra Glen and up the Melba etc but Port Melbourne to get onto the Eastern would be a nightmare too...

45 minutes from Port Melbourne to Carlton (start of Eastern Fwy).......City Road onto Punt/Hoddle St..WIll be a nightmare on Hoddle, etc so 45 minutes would be about right to travel 9km.

30 minutes from Eastern Fwy to Ringwood..... Eastern Freeway will be 10 times better then Monash...Traffic shouldnt stop for long even at Peak hour.

30 minutes from Ringwood along Maroondah Hwy to Lilydale.

1 hour from Lilydale to camp site....Go to Yarra Glen then up the Melba....Arrival at 7:45pm for the miracle beer...lol

^ This.

No-way you would take Monash. please don't go Monash unless your a masochist and want to go the rreeeaaalllyyyyy long way haha. ;)

I'd go with AB's directions Plazzy for sure. Hoddle will be a bugger but as soon as you get onto the Eastern FWY you'll be all good.

Hey guys unfortunately I can't make the whole trip but I will come down for a day trip on the Saturday and meet you all! What's a good time/place to meet up with you all on the Sat?

AB
2nd June 2011, 11:39 AM
Hey mate, if you can make it by 9am on the Saturday that would be great. I think we are all leaving for the day run just after 9am.

If not we'll be on channel 18. You can easily catch up with us on the tracks as there are always main dirt roads running through the area.

Timbo
2nd June 2011, 11:41 AM
Yep we probably wont be going too far as there's plenty of good tracks around so we should be within range.

If anyone else can't make the full weekend but would like to join in for the Saturday day trip, we encourage you to come along all the same!

Timbo
2nd June 2011, 03:19 PM
Hey Timbo, how did you know I'm a masochist? Ooo-err!!! Yeah I'll head up the Eastern but getting from Port Melb to Carlton can be as bad as anything else known to man, especially friday nights!

How 'bout we get a road network that actually works?? Is that too much to ask for??

Ahh Plazzy.. you bad boy lolol.

I think we'd be better off having a road network like in LA.. isnt that where they have those crazy roads doing loops in the air on top and below eachother!? I mean, if you going to screw up our roads, at least do it with flair!!
