Hi its Paul and I'm new to this but the reason for my interest is the problems I'm having with my ute.
Its was hard to start when the motor was warm , then it was hart to start first thing in the morning . It turns over but won't fire. On Sunday on a 2 hour trip it kept loosing power , then picking up.
I took it to one Nissan dealership and they replaced the starter motor and the battery for $1200 but made no difference. Yesterday I took it to another Nissan Dealership and they said it was the injectors which they replaced for $4700 and on collection from the service department this morning it wouldn't start. While I waited they replaced the fuel filter. Haven't had enough time to see if this has solved the problem. Has anyone had this type of issue before. Doing my head and my pocket in.

G'day Paul welcome to the forum.
A very common starting problem on the common rails is the rail pressure relief valve. They are about $250-ish from eBay. Might be worth checking out. Cannot believe you have been slugged that much by Nissan....

Paul,

Nissan wont sell you the Pressure Relief Valve separately, and will want to sell you the whole rail for around $1000 plus fitting.

Many have replaced the Pressure Relief Valve on its own and they have been perfectly fine ..... easy job in one way, but hard as they are done up very tight, and the fuel is under high pressure

It seems incredulous that Nissan would replace the starter motor and battery first up ... what gives there ... well maybe the battery could have been on its way out depending on the age.
I could be really silly, but if the motor is turning over then the starter motor isn't faulty ....

And as happy said, don't fall into the Nissan "you have to buy with the full rail" trap. Hence why I mentioned the genuine Bosch valves are on eBay for 250ish.
That is ofcourse proving the valve is the culprit.

Sounds like some one is getting ripped a new one.
Buy a scan gauge or go to Super Cheap Auto and get a read out from your OBD2 port
and see what errors are coming up if any.
OOI how many Ks has your Patrol done.
Dont forget your intro too

Pretty sure the starter motor and battery would not help this issue and i'm 100% sure they would of knew as well.
