Not only are the lot of you quite mad spending time in such conditons out of choice but I gotta ask - don’t you ever remove stickers from your windscreen? ;)

HA. You should see all the rego stickers on the other side.......

... you do realise that you have used a non-approved method of writing your name in the snow?
Pretty much agree with Cuppa, I've been to the snow 3 times
Once when I was 15 and didn't know better
Once when I was mid 40's 'cause I thought it couldn't have been as bad as I remember and as usual I was wrong
Once when I was about 50 because the Hobart WIN TV/AustarTransmission Hut on top of Mt Wellington burnt down... in July!!! ... and the Boss drugged me and threw me in the back of the Truck unconcious
Nah... just jokin'... looks like it was a fun trip and couple of very nice pic's in the collection as well

Way too cold for this black duck,
used to be illegal to have old rego stickers left on your car, no idea why
Good to see there is plenty of snow too.

Just got home. Thanks to all for a great weekend. Plenty of snow, great tracks and company, the kids had a ball. Good drive back today over Mt Selma. Plenty more snow and it was bucketing down with snow @ Cambaville junction. Saw a nasty accident on the way to Lake Mountain couple of vehicles slid of the road and there was a GU on its roof but luckily everyone was OK.
Heaps of pics I'll chuck some up later. . .

Friday we drove in Beardmores Tk off Moe Rawson Rd then down to Fultons Tk all the way through to Wiiliams Spur then down Black Range to Burgoyne's through to Licola.
Saturday up Tamboritha Rd to Arbuckle junction then left as far as we could go (where Kellys Lane comes out) up Howit High pains Rd. Half went straight back, the other half went B2 Tk then B1 Tk to Mt Margret Tk and turned right along the north section back to licola .
Sunday went up Glencairn Rd to Jam-Licola Rd to Mt Selma, down Mt Selma Tk to Aberfeldy and back through Matlock & Marysville.

It was funny. We got to the crossing and stopped. It was up a little and had reasonable flow. Walked through and checked it wasn't too deep, bout waist deep at the deepest and was flowing steady, was hard to walk. We all stood around and procrastinated and ummed & arred about what to do, half keen half not so. Decided to attach a strap to mine and Andys and give it a test. Was fine then we went through. . . Absolute pisser, no worries at all!!! Hahaha. Oh well better to be over cautious I guess. . .

How were the tracks into/out of the area, and crossing the river? I'll be solo, 35' muddies, winch, snorkel. I'm thinking of camping up there this weekend (think there's a hut around there).

Tracks were fine, pretty rocky and grippy. Saw a hut coming down to the river but didn't pass it, should be easy to find with a bit of exploring. Looked pretty cool wouldn't mind checking it out one day. Wouldn't advise the crossing solo, very good chance it would be up further since we went through. Hut & camping is on the Walhalla side.

That's awesome Rossco, thanks heaps mate. Might leave early friday and head up through Walhalla, Mt Selma, Mt Useful, and across to Burgoynes and Macalaster Gorge and camp there. Hopefully see someone else crossing the river at some point to tag along with and check out Licola while I'm there! Hopefully if I hit Walhalla by 10am, I'll get to Macalaster Gorge before sundown.

Yeah saw that track heading down the spur, makes sense. Pretty cool hut right on the river, interesting to see what it's like.
It's not that far from the Gorge to Mt Usefull & Selma, probably 30-40 k max, couple of hours.

Took that out the window as we were heading out of licola. It's just up Glencairn or Target Rd just out of licola, came out pretty well! ! Nice little drive through the valley. Saw one wedgie following just in front of the cars then stopped as it landed on the paddock. Saw 5 of them circling over the lambs getting harassed by maggies. Pretty cool, didn't see one pick up a lamb tho!

Hey guys, went down to Macalister Gorge over the weekend, all I can say is what a beautiful part of the world. Didn't end up crossing the river as we were by ourselves.
Went down Blank range and in through Burgoynes. Rain hit us, and missus wasn't too keen on heading back out via burgoynes, so took green hills. Few winches but was all good.
Just wondering, after crossing the river, is the rest of burgoynes to licola easier than from black range to the river? Would love to head back there with a trailer, but don't see myself getting down the steep sections on Green Hills or Burgoynes, so wondering if it's easier access from the Licola end of Burgoynes, and then just crossing the river.

Nice one, yeah sure is a nice spot, might have to go back in summer. Did you find the hut down the spur? ? Heading out the other side was pretty straight forward. Steepish in bits but probably not as steep as the other side from memory. . .

One of my favourite spots in there .... shame you didn't cross, as it is usually OK except after heavy rain, and we haven't seemed to have really had that much but again the weather can be totally different up there to here.
I would classify the Licola side as the harder side, but again it all depends on the track conditions. There is really only one hill that makes the major difference which we used to lovingly call Axle Hill, which is the hardest bit and usually a bit of a test of driving skills, although it was graded a few years back and that tamed it up a fair bit.... and the rest would be fairly similar. Last time we went though a year ago, it was still easy compared to years back

Yeah found the hut, stayed there the Friday night, was awesome having the woodfire to keep us warm! Loved it there, would love to go back, but don't think the missus is too keen. She's not a fan of the steep cliffside rocky sections haha. Probably didn't help being just us, she might go better with a few other cars around. :D

Easiest part of the drive! There's an off-camber section near the hut, but there's a chicken track to the low side which takes care of that..
